  1. Has anyone seen these yet? I was at the Navy exchange today and saw they had them on display. Then I googled and found their website. http://www.ribbonwick.com/ Watch the video. It's crazy that you have to put the candle out and rub your finger over the wick and continue to do that if the flame is too high? So pretty much they are saying it's a danger candlewick. I'm no expert on wick or candles like this but jeez it just seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  2. Thanks guys! I started that recipe thread because I remember when I first started using M&P and had no idea where to begin. I learned so much here I wanted to pay it forward in a way that would help out those new to M&P.

If you really get into M&P and start selling a lot invest in a good rice cooker. I got an 8lb cooker to melt my bases in. I would put all my additives into the pot and heat them all up together. Then all I had to do was pour the soap into molds. You can make a ton of soap in a day that way by refilling it.

    Good luck!

Hey Candy have you tried nature's garden m&p bases? I've read through a lot of your thread for recipes. So amazing :)

  3. I used pots, but I just poured from a Pyrex measuring cup with a spout. Have you tried that? I didn't like droppers, the balm got too cold, it seemed.

Next time I'm just going to use the pyrex and pour. The droppers was a huge waste of time and hardened almost immediately.

  4. So down the road I plan to try my hand at soap. Figured I'd try M&P first. I'm just curious if m&p soap is marketable compared to CP/HP. I know it's a great place to start but I know zero about soap and I've done some research but I figured I'd ask the experts first.

  5. Congratulations for your business launch and for the baby (future helper)! You have the right attitude and plans. See how things go and later on you can also "change course" if need be. All new businesses have growing pains now and then. I do CP soap but have always admired the colorful creativity of the M&P soapmakers. You could start out making some M&P and later add some CP or HP (and hey, maybe some really great-scented candles) when that time comes. Always remember to take your time, continue planning, have fun and always be confident - especially in yourself.

Thank You Glen I love your words of encouragement.

  6. So after many many years of testing, planning, some small selling to friends and family, changing my mind a few times, being in the Navy, multiple deployments and many other life events. I'm officially launching my business, Steel Valley Scents, this coming weekend. I only do melts so I'm really just focusing on my melt "tubs", 1 oz, and some claimshells.

I'm currently testing lip balm so maybe down the line I'll add those.

Also I'm looking at doing m&p soap in the future, I'm just researching it now and not sure of the market of m&p compared to HP and CP soap. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a business plan down and I know it'll take time to get things going. And I'm sure with my baby due in February I'll have to take some time off again but I feel like the time is right.

I really want to thank everyone on this forum who have answered questions and just posted so much helpful information.

  7. Probably just someone looking to make a quick buck for the holiday season. Figured they could get someone to give them their "secrets" and they wouldn't have to do anything except make them. What I never get is candle making isn't a cheap investment, you have to shell out a lot of money and hope that you get a good ROI.

  8. So I'm about to start putting my melts up for sale on etsy and facebook. I like to look at etsy to see what everyone is selling. I do the 2 oz ellipso tubs, really 1.6 oz of wax. My problem is other people who sell these as 2 ozs. How are they doing this? I have my weights on the labels as 1.6 how can I possibly compete with others that say they are 2 oz's?

  9. So I've been testing out a bunch of labels and really like the 2.5 x 1.75 clear glossy labels for my 2 oz ellipso cups. These are sorta pricey and would come out to .04 each unless I buy a lot in bulk.

Other than onlinelabels and planetlabels are there any other companies that sell labels like these?

  10. People move on. Sometimes to other social media and forums. I have to go to several forums to get any action.

Can we name these forums? I like to look at all different things. And right now it helps me get my mind off other stuff instead of just sitting around like I am right now.

  11. I did a lot of research and just made my own. I didn't want to have to mess with a base and then have to test all over again.

I don't add a sweetener to mine. I know plenty that do though. I don't think it's needed.

I guess you're right I didn't think about that and having to test all over again. I need to research and find out how to make a base.

  12. Thanks for all the information. I think at first I'm going to try a pre-made base and see if I like doing it then go from there.

Also I see a lot of threads that says to add sugar or not too. If you add sugar people lick their lips and dry them out? I just want to make sure I get all the ingredients so I can do it properly.

  13. So I think after the fall period I want to try my hand at making lip balm. A few questions I have that I couldn't find answers to:

-Is it better to make your own base or buy a pre-made base?

-Are the tubes or tubs better?

-I know there are a ton of suppliers just like candle supplies, is there any one that stands out for products or even one that is great with both candle and bath and body?

    Thanks,

    Kristin

  14. Just looking for a few suggestions as I want to order from them since they are having a sample sale:

Here's what I'm getting. All suggestions are welcome :)

    Pomegranate Cider

    Blueberry Cobbler

    Vanilla Maple Pecan

    Pink Lime

    Iced Tea

    Cranberry Peppermint

    Apple Cinnamon

  15. I have 3 Scentsy warmers and I love them. They melt all of my wax combos I have ever made and all wax that I have ever bought from other suppliers. Do NOT buy one with a square dish (any brand). The wax will get hung up in the corners. There are a few that I like from WM (BH&G brand) but my dishes did not fit as nicely as they do on my Scentsy warmers. I like a warmer that blends with my decor/home colors.

How much did you pay for them? I definitely do not like the square warmers they do get hung up in the corners with palm.
