  2. ETA: Okay, I should have googled first, found some good information. Now, my real question is: is it possible to sell a business without selling the *name*? Here's my dilemma: the company name is named after my son, and while I realize that he's not the only Henry in the world, I still feel really weird about selling the business name. Just do...no rhyme or reason. So, IF I do decide to sell my stuff, which is a long shot, I would love to sell the label design, formulas and all my raw ingredients and stock, but not the biz name, KWIM? Is that a possibility, or would that be a silly thing to expect someone to pay for?
  3. Eh, to me that was more than half the fun...picking a name, designing and logo and labels, etc. It took me as long to get my "look" down as it did to develop my produts, so I just can't see anything wrong with doing them simultaneously, as long as you have no intention of taking anything to market until it is one nanosecond away from perfect.
  4. Robin! How frikkin' cool! I'm so impressed, and I can't wait to read the article. You deserve every bit of exposure you get!
  5. I think BCN's lav is very true smelling. I do notice a diff. btwn the EO and FO, but not in the sense that the FO is flowery, I think the FO is as close as an FO copying an EO can be. To me, it's got that medicinal smell that is the hallmark of lav.
  6. OKay, so it's an allergy just like one might be allergic to milk protein or chocolate or peanuts. I see. I realize that, again, I'm looking like a complete dork, but I didn't know soy was even an allergen. Duh.
  7. Okay, I'm talking out of my bootie here, but I'm pretty sure that you technically need to count the liquid dyes as part of the % of liquid additive load the wax can hold. However, since I've only used a max of 10 drops per pound of wax, and I use 6% FO load, I don't worry about it, since my wax can hold like 9-10% load.
  8. I saw it this weekend at a craft fair and it was colored purple, like a light royal purple, i thought it fit the fragrance very well.
  9. I've been reading on the Dish that a lot of people avoid using soy in their b&b because of allergies...what the heck? I realize this may cause me to sound like an absolute idjit, but I thought soy was generally used by people who were highly allergic to many foods. I know that there have been some recent studies that show that very, very levels of soy intake have been linked to health problems, and contribute to certain kinds of cancer, but allergies? I knew this not. Anyone want to enlighten me?
  10. GSO, SAO would be good ones to offset the drying of the FCO - I like a 2:2:1 blend of GS:SA:FC.
  11. Honestly, that's one of those things that, personally, I found was only discovered *after* I tested. BC has a whole essay on which types of dyes work best in soy, so I adhered to those guidelines, and it worked almost exactly opposite for me! The color chips are nice, but the only way I could get them to dissolve fully was to add a splash of wax into the pour pot with the chip, allow it to dissolve over a number of minutes, THEN add the rest. Just a total pain in the bootie. I love liquid dyes, but the rumor is that they can increase frosting. Also, they can be verrrry messy. I did like the color blocks, but they need a lot of the block to get the right color, and I hated to keep ordering when I had my trusty liquid dyes that last forever. I'll go look for the BC essay so you can at least read it, although keep in mind, like I said, that I didn't find that all the info in there was true for me. Ack, I can't find it anywhere. That always happens. They like to hide it. Anyhoo - personally, if I were to go back to coloring my candles, I would either try the Pryme dyes or I would use powder pigments, I think.
  12. Dang. You people. I swear. It's like you *want* me to pay more money to ship my wax to me again. I sooooo wish GL was closer to me, but I shouldn't complain, shipping from TX to TX can't be that bad, right? Argh.
  13. www.saltworks.us has good prices on 50 pounds and up, lots of salt, but good pricing!
  14. I think it's great! Very impressive job! My ONLY critique is that I would remove the period after your tagline. It's not a complete sentence, so it doesn't need a period, plus, taglines generally don't call for a period. I know it's a small thing, but my eye immediately zeroed in on it, and I hate to detract from your name and your beautiful candles on the fireplace!
  15. Ah....I'm lurking in the soaping area, because I'm so sad that my hesitancy about lye has caused me to call it a day for now. I made one batch of it, and if y'all had seen me, you would have bent me over your knee and spanked me. Knowing that I'm too careless with haz materials and with a toddler running around, there's no way I can justify it right now. I read the post about the little guy that dumped the bucket of lye water on his head, and also read the reply from one of our very sweet own Ct'ers whose son ingested lye and has had to have surgeries, and I just know that no *matter* how cautious, no matter how careful, my little man has a way of getting into it - even if it means getting a ladder and a key - and I would never, ever, ever in a million years be able to forgive myself. So...it's not for now, but maybe for someday. In the meantime, I get to revel in your beautiful soaps, so it means more business for you!
  16. I wick my 3" exactly apothecaries with a 1312, and while it can mushroom, I HATE double wicking, so it works for me. Anything bigger and I can't see it working. The 1312 is equivalent to the 22, so you won't see much, if any, difference.
  17. Dang it. I really need to start reading closer. I could have *sworn* that I saw e-wax in there. Crud. Sorry...I'm just skimming too fast, I need to start being more careful.
  18. I would just use any of the serifs. You can use those down to around a 4 point and it's still legible. Try Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, etc, etc. I use Goudy Old Style and it looks fine.
  19. Glo - I wouldn't even bother with the borax. Just leave it out, unless you lerve borax in your lotions. There's really not much that it does, besides (I *think*) provide some softening properties - and for some reason, I want to say it can help tweak the pH a tiny bit, but don't quote me on that. I just don't like borax in lotion, so when I try this, I'm just going to ignore that part.
  20. I personally prefer the CD or HTP wicks (they're the same, just diff. brands) in my soy. I hope you get the 8oz wicked, that size can be a bear.
  21. Great! I'm glad you're happy with it, that's all that matters! It's nice to have products that aren't the same old, same old.
  22. If you do a search on the forum for keywords like soot, soy vs. paraffin, etc., I think you'll find enough information to keep you reading for a very long time and answer any questions you may have upfront!
  23. They have an excellent reputation, and are some of the nicest suppliers I've ever corresponded with. I think they are going to do very well in Austin, with all of us Central Texans looking for a local supplier.
  24. Mei-Mei - I can't imagine that anyone would blame you for a gazillion people asking her for free candy. I'm still just shaking my head, and it won't sink in. Maybe everyone's confused, and thinks it's Halloween?
  25. Yeah, I might just start from scratch. Just use the butters and oils, no ewax or beeswax, or you'll get a balm/salve consistency, no amount of whipping would help you, probably. You've got a nice balm now, so you can always save it and use it for that purpose, but I doubt you can get it to whip up.
