  1. This has helped! I've seen other posts suggesting the 60 zinc wick, so I'm glad to get your confirmation. I will test both the 51 and the 60 zinc wicks. Thank you very, very much.
  2. Many thanks to all of you for responding! Now, I hate to do this, but can you tell me if this pretabbed zinc core wick: w51-32-18Z Medium ...is the same as "51 zinc" or "51-31"? (I found this on Bitter Creek North, which is where I am getting the other supplies). Sorry in advance for having to be "spoon-fed" on this. Hope I can return the favor to future newbies one day!
  3. Hello All ~ Hoping some of the more experienced folks can help me out. I am using IGI 4786 container wax in 16 oz ball mason jars. Which wick size would you recommend? I am a newbie and am so overwhelmed by the choices out there. Thanks in advance!
  4. For what it is worth I saw at Target selling for $19.99 a firestarter gift basket. In it were two waxed pine cones, a very small bundle of fat wood, and two small slices of white birch. It was in a flimsy wicker basket.
  5. Good Morning! I thought I would let you all know for what it's worth that I was in Target this morning and they were selling firestarter baskets for $19.99. Included were two waxed pine cones, a very small bundle of fatwood, and two slices of what I think were birchwood branches. It was wrapped in a cheesy wicker basket. Very overpriced! In the directions for "how to use" it said to place one pine cone in the fireplace between two logs, then light the pinecone.
  6. You are one Smart Tart! Thanks so much for the info and encouragment. And I will keep you in mind if I have any other questions! I am so excited to work on this project. I went ahead and ordered supplies from Bitter Creek, and am going to try A NorthWoods Christmas and Christmas Cheer FO. If it bombs then at least I will learn and have fun! Until next time...!
  7. Thanks! I want to do a bang-up job with these Christmas gifts, so I appreciate your reply!
  8. I am making candles for friends, teachers, neighbors, etc. this year for the holidays. I made one test candle and had a lot of fun with it. I have a couple of questions regarding fragrances. First, I see many of you all order scents from suppliers on-line. I was getting my fragrance and other supplies from Michael's Craft Store. Is that okay or is there a difference in quality? Second, I purchased a hard fragrance brick to scent my candle at Michaels. I followed the directions but the scent was negligible. I would need to at least double it. I see many of you all using oils instead of the brick. Is there a significant difference between the two? The oil seems easier in my mind. Thanks!
  9. I remember years ago purchasing a fireplace "gift basket" that included firestarter sticks, match holder, etc. Also included were waxed, scented pinecones that gave off a colorful burst when thrown in the fire, and they also gave off a wonderful scent. I was never able to find those pine cones again after that. I wonder if I could try to make them myself now!
  10. They are very pretty. What a great idea. Are these for burning in a fireplace or are they decorative?
