  1. I am considering trying Soy again.. :pI'm just going to start with Tins (16oz). I went on CandleScience.com & used their wick guide. They suggested HTP 1212. I have some of that (for when i was trying to wick palm) & well it looks sooo big. My tins are 3 & 3/4 in diameter. They also suggested LX 26's. What do you think?

I am going to test, test, test of course...but just wanted other opinions before i went & actually poured my first one.

    P.s. I'm using Ecosoya 135

  2. I place the plug in bottom of my metal mold, place a Glass tea light holder on top of that. When the candle comes out just take out the plug & your glass tea light is embedded into your candle ready for a tea light to be inserted.

Kay-- are you out there? Need your help! SOS anyone.... Help save the day!!

I finally received my tealight insert plug and followed your directions above. After it was just about impossible to get the insert plug out of the mold I discovered another problem-- the tealight glass was too low inside the pillar. GRRRRR! But it sure was beautiful, which is what broke my heart.

Hubby says, "I think you need to cut some of that silicone off the plug to make it level with the TL glass." I think the TL glass I used is about as pretty low profile as it comes.

Would it make a difference if the mold is flat or concave? I think the problem just lies in the fact that too much of the plug sticks out of the glass TL. What to do?

    Many thanks~~~

does it look like this? I have had no problem with the glass being to low...my plug fits almost flush with the TL glass. actually the glass ticks out just a hair.

  3. I am just curious :grin2: . For those of you who have made both types, what is your personal preferance as to which one has the best throw.

I started off making soy candles, but decided to try the palm wax from S&P a month or so ago and I think I like the hot throw it gives off much better than the soy candles I have made. The soy I have made gave a good hot throw, but to me, my nose picks up some "strange" scent in the soy wax (in all of them...who knows, maybe I'm doing something wrong!)

Anyway, I think the palm wax gives off a "cleaner/truer" scent than soy.

    Anyone else have an opinion?

  4. WOW!!! you are sooo patient. The minute my wax arrived I had to play, I couldnt wait and made a total mess of my kitchen, from which I have been banned...lol. I started playing with my DH's good pots, a good pyrex cup, and good spoons, boy did I get in trouble. I jumped before I learned that you should have seperate stuff for your candles. Didn't even think that the FO would make the food taste like perfume:D DUH!!! Now I have a little workspace in the basement away from HIS KITCHEN Best of luck to you.

    SAME HERE!!!!!!!

  5. lol! I so hear ya! I had the same questions when I got mine. I used a hot glue gun & just dabbed a little glue on the outside of the hole...works just as good as mold sealer. Then one day I ran out of glue sticks so used nothing. I had no leaks in my 4 inch diameter mold, but my 3 in leaks every time. I have a magnet square coming (please excuse me I can't remember whats its actually called) but it looks like a square & its magnet...sticks to the bottom of most molds, so it says...lol I'll let you know how it works.

Good luck! Any questions, just ask!

  6. I have a little less than 5# of ecosoya container wax (from Nu-Scents) sitting here not being used. (its just not for me) I am willing to do an even trade for Palm wax (Pillar or container). I'll pay shipping on my end, if you pay shipping on your end.

I posted in classifies, but never get much response there..thought I would try here..sorry if its a no-no.. :grin2:

  7. Oh Man, I forgot the burn bream & band-aids!!! :P

    for my wax to cool...

My name is Tereasa (not just a pithy forum name, eh?)... I've lurked here for a long time and finally decided to say hello to everyone.

I started making soy wax candles in 2001. I bought soy wax because it was cheaper than paraffin (joke on me, eh?) and thought, as many do, that I'd have an instant and lucrative business. Well... I made some candles... they all turned out brown because yellow and blue make green, but without a color wheel... welllll... brown. No big deal, I tell myself. My co-workers and friends were soooo supportive and bought these brown things. Only to have to come back and tell me that they had no scent. THEN (backwards, I know) I did some research. I was mortified about the chances I'd taken. I haven't sold a candle since. Anyway... that's my beginnings... I'd like to think I've made some forward steps in my endeavors, lol...

Anyway, having said that, I thought it might be all right to post some things that newbies may need to purchase that perhaps they haven't considered... chime in with anything I miss, please!

    From the Store:

Burn Cream, band-aids, stongly consider goggles, lots of steak or whatever to appease your DH (or significant other)... maybe nothing else because that would cut back on fragrance shopping.

    From the Book Store:

    Anyone else have suggestions?

  8. so you can use IGI 1242 or would it be better to use IGI 1260...palm is nice too though. I find it hard to work with though at times. How clear do these waterdecals come out on a candle...??? Do they look clear and not like they are 'cracked' if you get what i mean.

I just did my first water slide decal on palm today & it turned out great! I still have to spray it one more time with clear coat, but so far its turned out pretty good.
