  1. the tops of your candles arent flat like mine..why is that? Do you use wick pins? I'm considering using wick pins cue iam getting tired of my molds leaking at the wick hole. Your candles are beautiful by the way...
  2. I made some chunks yesterday to use for christmas candles..red & green turned out really pretty, but they have a weird smell. I didnt scent them so they have a chemical smell to them..almost like I added to much dye. Has anyone come across this? The candle looks great, but smells weird...overpour scent was just cinnamon vanilla, but you cant even smell that. Kay
  3. I'm using 1343 for the first time & was trying to make an ivory pillsr..just plan ivory with a vanilla scent to put on candle holders in my living room. It came out startburst all over (mottling I guess)..what caused this? I used no additives & 1oz FO for a 4.5 x 3 candle mold. Can you tell i'm still learning? Please help me?
  4. Hey, I rememebered seeing this post acouple days ago. I was looking to buy me a presto pot & did a search on Google..I found this...think it might help! http://www.candlecauldron.com/prestopot.html
  5. So the majority say 1275 is better then 4630??...Thanks..I was just about to buy sone 4630...I have heard though 4630 is hard to wick...
  6. Thank you..I was wondering where I could get 5lb slabs..everywhere I have looked only has 10lb slabs.. Thanks again
  7. I'm new at this too & completely understand about testing & all, and would never sell or give away as gifts unless I test, but the real idiots are the ones that light a candle & walk away. That is also one of the reasons ppl lose their homes to candles. I expereinced a fire with a candle. A Gel candle (not one I did)...I burned it & my god I was glad I was right there in the kitchen with it...It caught fire & lit up my wall....thank god I caught it in time, but to think if i walked away for 1 minute..I wouldnt have a house. Kay
  8. THANKS..any more please..i'm geting great ideas.. Kay
  9. I have learned that if you pour down a butter knife as your pouring into your mold..it helps alot!
  10. I'm looking for new scents to try out..anyone have any that smelled real good & with great scent throws???
  11. I read about HTP Wixks..Lonestar said about using these that work best with IGI 4630 wax. Anyone use these?
  12. I have started with paraffin straight wax..now i THINK i'm ready to venture out into blends. I visited Lonestar's website. They give explanations on all their waxes which I love. I did some comparing on thier waxes. Here's what I got... IGI 4630 Container blend....anyone suggest this? IGI 4625 Pillars..can I still do rustics & such with these waxes & have them turn out? It says they are smooth & creamy. What do you think about these? I'm buying a small amount to test out, but wanted to see what others thought first. Thanks, Kay
  13. Thank you guys for the advise. I would say its a dirty mold problem, but it looks clean. Its only on top of candles & kinda looks like frost marks. I guess i could just invest in new ones, but had these already made & wanted to salvage it. Thanks again..I thouht I read somewhere about heat gunning it..lol Kay
  14. Just like the subject says..I got a hold of a bad mold. The bottom of the mold (top of candle) is marked up...Bought off EBAY..My candles are coming out with rough tops. Is there any way I can fix my candles. I read somewhere about a heat gun. Could I do that to fix my top. I'm making it to put on my table for thanksgiving..you know as a pretty center piece, but right now the tops arent that pretty...lol I need help. Kay
  15. I also am thinking of using SOY..I used it once before & wasnt happy with it, but I was just starting out, so had no real knowledge on candle making..my ivory candles came out great...guess cause you couldnt see the frosting..i'm assuming the frosting is the white stuff on the top of the candles. That was driving me crazy. So I switched back to Paraffin. Does anyone have any pointers for me.....i'm very much thinking about tryng soy again...also hearing all the bad things about paraffin... Kay Thanks

    Tarts

Thank you...I have read some of the basics & I just seem to get more from it hearing from people that have already done & it see what is the best to use. But I truely do understand what your saying. Thanks for the help though..I thought it was ok to ask since i have read some threads in here where people were asking about different waxes & all. Maybe I was asking to much. I'm sorry & yes I'll go to the other threads for my questions next time..I really didnt realize I was in Candle Gallery. Sorry. KAY
  17. How do you do mottled? I'm sorry if i ask to many questions. I just want to learn all I can. This seems so interesting! And its fun to do. My husband says if i cooked as much as I melt wax..i'd be a DARN GREAT COOK!!
  18. I saw the thread about tarts...Those look awesome:D but heres my question. What wax is best for Tarts. You have pillar wax for pillars & container wax for containers, theres no tart wax for tarts lol so which wax do I use. Does anyone have any certain kinds they use & how do I get them to smell like Yankee candles (strong) I need help!!! I love tarts but hate buysing them. I would love to make my own. KAY Wanted to add that I have those little tart molds (metal) are those the best to use? Or is there something else?
  19. I am looking at these pics & WOW.i have alot to learn. These are beautiful!! How long did it take for some of you to learn this & should I expect to have this an expensive hobby because right now thats all I want out of it. I want to be more creative & doing this seems like it might be fun..Wal-mart is going to miss me in their Candle section..lol I'll never be this good though. I'm making my first container candles tomorrow. Maybe I'll post it here if I can figure out how to & if it turns out ok...I dont want to look like a fool & with these very nice candles..i will. I have been at this for about 30 days give or take acouple..I have made, correction, tried to make a pillar candle out of a mold that a friend gave me to just test. Alittle harder then I guessed! I know how to make tarts!!! Thats a start, right??? Well, I hope you guys can help me & hope to have lots of fun trying. KAY
  20. oh by the way, they look awesome!
