  1. Well if it was me and being they are the original candles from Grama's wedding 60 years ago, I would leave them exactly how they are, burn them at the service, then pack them and put them away in a hope chest for hopefully my daughters wedding etc...I wouldn't do anything else to them to 'restore' them. They are a treasured heirloom so to speak, the aged yellow spots would make them more beautiful to me! That's just my opinion tho!

I agree. If you want shiny bright white like new, buy new. If you want them for the treasure they are, I'd display them as heirlooms. Maybe use a floral candle ring around them with mixed white and cream colored flowers to help the color blend into the wedding colors, if it's mainly white.

  2. Hi,

I use a CDN 20 or 22 in my 10oz apocathery jars. Just recently I tried using 2 x CDN 10's and that worked out fine also.

I am even going to try 2 x CDN 8's and see how that goes.

Is it Satin Ducky that I have noticed using CDN's?? She may be able to help also. I think she understands the difference between CDN and CD's....(hope it's her...hehehhe)

    Cheers,

    Hells

Nope, sorry, not me. I don't think I've ever even tried CDN's.. and I definitely know I've never used C-3 so I'm no help :(

  3. You did excellent for just learning. Very pretty!

We've played with them some but pretty plain ones. I really like that heart! Maybe someday I can learn how to do those :) I can do swirls but the dots just never work...lol

  4. Ok, I finally got this so I can make the sugar scrub. Now that I have it, I don't know what to do with it :laugh2: I guess I assumed it would be a liquid, but it's pellets. Do I mix it in something to dissolve it or just dump it in the oils or what? I've seen many threads asking questions about sugar scrubs but most of them seem to be about which ingredients to use/sub or when to add the sugar. I'm not having much luck searching so maybe I'm completely missing something. Either that or everyone else already knows how and in what order to mix everything :embarasse

Uh oh... now that I look at the recipe, I see the stearic. Is that the same as used in candles? I must have thought so at one time since I noted that I had all the other ingredients except the cetyl alcohol.

Any advice? Suggestions? White jacket to lend? :laugh2:

  5. Nope, it's not required. Though it may be a good idea, it depends on your customers. I've noticed many web sites do list burn times but never thought too much of it. When I started selling (though I still don't sell much) I got asked occasionally. I may list it eventually but I still don't for now. The exception for me is votives. The burn time seems to be the standard measure rather than the size/weight.

  6. Ummm, maybe I bought the only ones she had? It was only 10 :undecided I just looked and they're gone. It was in the Bestsellers little box on the left. Since it was just Thursday and came yesterday I'm surprised they're not listed anymore. I would suggest emailing her as well.

  7. That turned out very nice. It looks kinda two-toned, with blue on bottom and pink on top. Either you have a very smooth transition of color or my eyes are just playing tricks and picking up the pictures colors. Either way, it's a nice effect :)

  8. I love the flip tops(point AWAY from your face when closing!) because the FO always dribbles down the side when I pour.

On my 1 lb bottles here....

    Interchangeable

    Peaks

    Aztec

JS _ may or may not leak, same size threads but JS has a taller neck

    Interchangeable

    Bitter Creek

Berts ( just bought a dozen lids)

    Lonestar

  9. Ya know, it never dawned on me to add the FO after the salt. Then again, I've never seen anything move that fast! LOL

I really wanted to try making swirls on top like yours! I apparently don't have the whisk masher thingy anymore but it didn't really matter. I tried using my tater masher for water lines and even that wouldn't dent the top :laugh2:

  10. As for the color though, I am betting I can help there. Did you use an FD&C blue dye? They are not stable in CP and in fact that is what I use to get from a lavender to a purple shade as the color morphs to all beat heck! lol To get a true blue color try ultramarine blues...they work every time :)

I've tried the food colorings before and know they turn, but these colorings are pretty new to me. I started to say "nope, they're Essentials by Catalina" then I went and looked. Those are just the FD&C in a dextrose base...LOL. The green morphed orange on me, but I had never tried the blue. Now I know...lol

Thanks for the kind words ya'll! It really helps keep the courage up to try things again. The colors are really very pretty now and the bars look a bit better now that they're cleaned up. Many of them still have chunks that fell out and a few have soap blobs that got no color or salt mixed in, but all in all, not bad :grin2:

  11. That turned out very pretty! Looks earthy :) Is it scented?

As for your little posting area... the bottom part is called the signature where you can add a picture, quote or whatever you want (mostly...lol) You may not be able to use a signature yet since you're new. When you can, the option will be in your USER CP (left link in the blue bar above). On that page there will be a list of links for different things on the left. The signature is the top link.

At the bottom of the main page is a section for board usage info. You can find a lot of info there as well as the FAQ's.

  12. I'm pretty sure anything that makes a medical claim falls under FDA regulations.

You could word it to imply what you intend it to without actually making a claim though....

Like maybe instead of "relieves sinus headaches" maybe say "great to use when you have a sinus headache". It implies it would help but doesn't ACTUALLY claim to make it go away.
