  1. You need a cat. A smart cat. A cat that can help you. My cat, Einstein, helps the labels eject from the printer. She also is a big fan of wicks on a roll and likes to make sure they are soft and flexible. Oh, and she helps with the packaging.

She doesn't like the test burning which is good, I don't want her near those. She also has no opinion on FO's, but she does like the catnip EO.

See? This is what happens. Making candles makes people lose their minds :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

  2. I've done the same thing, but with new glassware. Think "oh, these are so cute" and pick up a dozen. Then start testing in a few and the rest are still sitting on the shelves because the logistics just don't work out.

Keep in mind, I'm not a container person though. I don't have the base skills of which wicks will work decently in my wax in what size jars and such. Each time is starting from scratch and I pull my hair out every time...lol

  3. I agree with Vicky on the name. My first thought is what's a Mia Bella site doing here??

I don't know if you're looking for spotters/eyes for the site or not but I noticed a couple things right off the bat.

On the about us page, that first paragraph is very confusing. I'm not great at the "English lessons" so I don't remember what it's called. It switches from the "I" and "we" point of views.

I made the mistake of clicking on the blog and there's aren't any links I can find to get back to your site. :(

  4. Your site is very nice! Easy to navigate pleasing to browse through.

I understand that you can't do anything about the shipping /total thing, but making it flat rate and stating that on every page makes a big difference.

I've seen many sites that wont give shipping cost until the end and they DON'T get my business. I refuse to give my cc info until I know the exact total I'll be charged. Between fearing that the order will submit before I see the charge and getting disgusted that I've wasted the time to hunt down my purse, dig out the card and type all that info in only to find out the shipping is outrageous - I just go shop somewhere else.

  5. Here's another use for Coke. Our water company told us this tip last week. If you suspect your toilet tank may be leaking into the bowl, pour a can of coke into the tank. Wait a couple hours and check. The water in the bowl will be discolored if there's any leakage at all.

Ok, I know it's totally off the subject, but Coke post reminded me of it :laugh2:

  6. Oh, no, there aren't wick holes. Since floaters need tabbed wicks I use the same method as my other silicone molds. I poke an initial hole with a straight pin, then stick a rod in it. I use lengths of cut clothes hanger wire, from 4" to 10" depending on the mold. I use steel wool on the rods to remove any varnish or whatever it is that coats them. And if the rod doesn't stand straight (which is often since I rarely get the holes perfect) I use a popcicle stick with a hole in it to steady it :)

  7. I disagree. I want a cold throw that is as close to possible in scent to the actual hot throw. I have about 20 scents that are very different in cold throw compared to their hot throw and would like to try them in a different wax that can throw cold. Thank you, but I have no intention of misrepresenting my product. I want to accurately represent the my tarts. I only make tarts and only use one wax so I know nothing of other waxes which is why I asked for help in this. I sell on the internet only and cold throw doesn't matter but now that I'm going retail, I do need accurate testers.

Am I the only one that this totally confused?

  8. here's a dumb question but for the slices.... do you tell them to just pop them in the mug or melt it down?

I only make it for just my guy, so there's no instructions. When he runs out, I just drop the slice in and let him go at it. :)

  9. I've done it once. Needed to make 60 mini wedding cake votives in about 5 days, with only one mold to use...LOL. I ran across a smaller wedding cake candle that I like better (cheapie poor quality candle but had a nice shape). So I bought a mold making kit and made a half dozen mold from it. Got em done just barely in time! Now the molds are in a box on the shelf. Maybe they'll get used again some day. It was an interesting experience making them though :laugh2:

  10. Nope - not an urban legend ... just a different type of war. Going back to the Viet Nam era, troops were sent out on patrols in heavily foliage. A whiff of Old Spice was extremely out of place and a give-away of someone's location. It was more of a close-combat situation.

Today there is no doubt when troops in the area so there is no need to "blend in" with the surroundings. Of course there are exceptions, I'm thinking Navy Seals and some Recon patrols.

During Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the early days of the Gulf War we recommended that spouses only send things that were easily identified as being commercially made and factory wrapped. This was for troop safety. Guidance may have changed.

Thanks Judy! That makes perfect sense.
