  1. You guys are too funny. But I'm just the same. I love getting samples from Becky. She is very generous. I have even gotten wax samples before. Bittercreek also sends samples, even when I don't order FOs. That's the best way to make your customer smile (cuz you know we are all FOHO's - and proud of it!!). cotton core wick ~ HA! I love it!! roflmao
  2. When you make a chunk pillar the bottom is actually the top. You wouldn't tip it over.
  3. Yippee!!!! I am so happy that McKenna is able to go on her trip! That's awesome!!! She will have a great time and make some wonderful memories. And she does need spending money... What a great group of people here!! :highfive: I am going dry my eyes and blow my nose now (bawling is not a pretty sight)... HAPPY BIRTHDAY MCKENNA!!!!!!! :cakegirl:
  4. Great job!!! I love the clouds. It doesn't look like it's your 1st time. You'll be a pro before long...
  5. Come on Michi - make some room for the rest of us. Vicky - I just did the same thing. LOL - Great minds and all that...
  6. I was asked to make some taper candles and though I have thought of doing the hand dipped ones I am not sure the time it takes to make them is really feasible for selling at a reasonable price. I think it would be easier to make them using molds, but really haven't found much info on them. Does anyone here make them either in molds or hand-dipped? Sell them? How well do they sell for you? I'm thinking if I start now, maybe they'll be ready for christmas - or maybe that is too optimistic. Just wondering if it is a worthwhile undertaking or if it is something I would be better off buying wholesale. I would love your opinions.
  7. Those are some gorgeous 'canes Lin. Nice work.
  8. Lin, absolutely gorgeous!! Congratulations on a beautiful job.
  9. Yeah, my first thought at seeing it lit was "what a nasty mess". Looks much better as a novelty candle than lit. It would have been better if they had sealed it with clear wax instead of colored.
  10. You can mix and store them in a plastic container as long as it has a 5 in the triangle on the bottom. I mix mine in the 64oz mason jars. Someone said they use the big deli pickle jars. As for selling them at fairs, use whatever look you are going for. I have used small jars with homespun, but have changed to sachet bags. But I mostly use them to make the cookie cutter air fresheners that you hang. They are the best selling way for me by far. HTH:D
  11. Awesome - I like the simplicity of the design of the pyramid. It looks nice in the yellow. Great job on all of them!!
  12. Great job! It looks beautiful...can't believe how much work must go into making one of these. It has my fave color combo for spring!
  13. Looks like you've been busy. They look awesome. Very professional, like Michael said, and classy. Great job.
  14. Those are beautiful. What a great mottle and I love the color. It matches my living room perfectly, soooooo......just leave em by the door and I'll drop by to pick em up soon. hehehe.
  15. They all look great. I couldn't pick out a favorite one if I had to. Terrific job! It looks like you are having fun.
  16. Wow, that looks like it took a long time to make. The layers look great. Bet it smells wonderful.
  17. Ellen, your pillars are coming along great. It looks really good. I like the colors together.
  18. Bittercreek carries them. I would think you could go to michaels or joann's and look in their jewelry dept and find any number of items that would work.
  19. What a great idea!! I would love to be tested...er...have my candles tested.
  20. I used wick pins and cd wicks. I believe the cd's do curl to one side. So if it eventually all burns and doesn't leave a hang up on the side, it should be okay. I like that the wick doesn't have any mushrooms. I believe the LX and RRD wicks all curl too so I would be in the same boat if I switched to one of them. I will try with a zinc wick and compare again to see what I like better overall. Heck I'll line em up and try with the LX and RRD's too and have another go around. Thanks for all the help...
  21. I have a swap to pour for and a few container candles to make for an order. I will be doing sweetpea and jamaican me crazy for the containers and I'm not sure yet on what I'm doing for the swap. Robin-my garden is still frozen (pouting in a big way). Can't wait for spring!!!
  22. Congrats on making your first candle and welcome to this site. It's very helpful as there is so much to read and learn (make sure to read the stickies). You will become quickly addicted and poor (as you'll have to try everything), but you'll make some great friends while you're at it.
  23. Hi guys, I am new to making votives and made some for the v-day swap. Some reviews I am getting back are saying that they are burning unevenly. What causes this? Is it something that I am doing wrong in the "design" or is it possibly the size/shape of the holder it is being burned in? The ones I have tested all burned okay in the snug votive holders, and somewhat unevenly in a shorter holder with a curved edge, but caught up and burned down fine after it all filled in. The wax used was 1343/J50 (75/25 ratio) only additives were vybar and uv inhibitor. Thanks so much for any suggestions.
  24. If you wanted to try the firestarters, whether in a fireplace or a campfire, the idea is the same. You would use something to hold the wax and wood chips (ie muffin/cupcake paper cups or party paper cups). Pour the melted wax into the bottom of the cup over the wood chips (preferably not pine chips) and then add wick trimming. You can top it with decorative potpourri, birdseed, etc for looks. You can try without using a wick, but I had a hard time getting it to start properly without. When these burn, the idea is that the wax ignites and starts the fire. The wax will completely burn off. There will be no scent after the wax ignites - it will only smell good until you burn it. The dye from the wax will not change the color of the flames. In order to do that you have to use specific chemicals and the reaction from the chemicals and flames cause the color of the flames to change. So if you don't use pinecones or pine chips to make your firestarters, there should be no creosote buildup. The party paper cups are sturdier than the cupcake cups so the wax should not spill out (especially if it is level in the fireplace) and should be no mess. HTH
