  1. I'm not selling them in the USA. I live in England. And actually I'm not selling them. I don't make them for profit. I am a hobbyist and I donated these to an Elementary school for them to sell at their fundraiser. There is no marketing or business here. I usually give my candles away to my friends. Anyway ALL of them (I made 60-70) were sold. The school raised almost 300$ for new books. I'm so happy.
  2. I HATED CBA! I bought 5 lbs from a local when I was in a bind. It was awful, I could not get anything to throw! My wicks kept drowning, and it was a mess. I use Ecosoya pure soy and 135 and love them both. 135 has been giving me incredible CT and HT. So i'd say get rid of the CBA and get onto something better. You have no idea how happy I am with my 135.
  3. Butterscotch from MC. I was so sad because I love butterscotch. And cookies for santa must have butterscotch in it as it makes me want to hurl as well.
  4. If you do and want to sell/trade it I'd be greatful. Just PM me. Thanks!
  5. This is what I did yesterday. I am making candles for my kids' school. It is a fundraiser to buy books for the library. I am donating all proceeds to the kiddies. I had so much fun! They are all soy wax. I'm totally in love with ecosoya 135! It is so amazing and NO FROSTING! I can't believe it. I'm thrilled. I even poured a dark color last week with not one bit of frost and I added nothing. Just 135, FO and dye. I'm so in love.
  6. I use the same brand Ecosoya Pure Soy and I think it has an amazing hot throw! I do add the FO at a low tem with this wax (with CB-135 I add at higher temps). With Pure Soy I add FO at 120 and mix mix. Then I pour slushy or cloudy. But I have had good results adding FO at 140 as well. It is VITAL that you get a good FO supplier for testing. I just got a batch of FO from an unreputable supplier and they were horrible. When I used good quality tried and tested FO they were wonderful. Also, I add 3T. Stearic PP to the pure soy to make it harder. I also found that RRD wicks work well. Feel free to contact me since I am a lover of this wax. I just got a bunch of CB135 I am playing with and it is lovely too. Good luck! Ilona PS I know it is tricky. But worth it.
  7. OK so after about 1 hour the castille gelled and came together perfectly. Whew! Guess it takes a bit longer, that's it. I used wax paper to smoothe the tops and it did not stick to the soap at all. Looks very nice, not at all rough. I'll get pics up when they are cut. Ilona
  8. Hiya! I just did my FIRST oven HP this afternoon and it came out so amazing. I will post pics soon as I am shocked at how nice they look. I cut them this afternoon and no huge air bubbles, no problems...Just JOY! BUT I have my 2nd batch of the day, a castille (miller's Newbie Castille Recipe) that has been in the oven for 45 min now on 170 and is just starting to get to the cookie batter stage. At this rate it will take 2 hours to finish. I just upped the temp to 180 to see if that helps. I zap tested it and got a little zap so I know it is still not done, will it begin? hmm? Anyone have experience with castille or high OO% soaps taking longer to gel in HP? CPHP? or Oven? I'm interested to know as I followed the recipe perfectly. I'll just wait and see what happens. But I am thrilled with my other batch, it was a lard, coconut, olive mix and was done in 40 min from start to finish. Zapp tested and all. Was the easiest batch of ho soap I've ever made. Beats 1 hour of stirring. Thanks all! ilona
  9. That's what I did, just changed it up with lard and calculated it. I did an oven HP and it worked perfectly! My first oven HP. I'm done with stovetop HP. The oven is a piece of cake. LOVE it! Thanks for clearing that up. bye ilona
  10. I want to make a batch of CP castille from the recipe on Millersoap. It calls for 6 oz of the "solid type palm oil". I don't have any palm oil but I have palm stearin. I looked it up but could not find a clear answer. Is palm oil and palm stearin basically the same thing? Do you think I should try with the stearin? If not does anyone know where to get the solid palm oil or do you just use the liquid palm oil? Thanks!!
  11. I am using Ecosoya Pure Soy and after numerous weak hot throws at 8% FO mixing FO at 180, 170 ish, I tried mixing the FO at 140. It seemed to work, but I am curious, what temp do you mix you FO at?
  12. Oh that is a great idea! Thanks. I just hate wasting the stuff. ilona
  13. Hi I was wondering, after burning a tart, can you use the same wax again to make another tart by just adding more FO to it? I hate to waste wax that I use for personal use. Thanks!
  14. Hi, I need to order some Sodium hydroxide and plan to get some from a chemical supply. Thing is they have Lab grade, reagent grade and pellet form and flake form. All are pure SH so which do you think is better? Any difference on these? I would like to use them for HP soap. Thanks Ilona
  15. Great! I think I will order the snowtops one and the Oregon one to compare. I've been looking for a nice orange blossom. Cant wait. Thanks
  16. I'm in Tampa too! Greetings! I use ecosoya CB Puresoy but am just starting with soy after 10 years of other wax so in testing right now. Soy is tricky, I have to learn everything from scratch, seems. Best of luck!
  17. Anyone know where to get a true Orange Blossom FO? I have the Orange Blossom Joe Malone cologne spray that is just like the Florida orange blooms. I am looking for a FO that is either extract of the blossoms, or something very close. Thanks!
  18. I just made up some GL Pumpkin spice in 100% ecosoya CB this morning and the cold throw is lovely. The candles set up no problem, and just making them scented my whole house with great spicey scent. My only neg was that so far the spice has been dominating the scent and I wish there was more pumpkiny smell. I am going to try the pumpkin/apple mix Garey recs. What a good idea. But it is Pumpkin Spice. I'd be curious to try just a pumpkin FO... but then again, does pumpkin on its own smell good? I forgot, been a bit since I've carved one. The mix Thom made sounds yummy. I may have to buy some pumpkin. Gosh I feel so autumn!
  19. I just got the same FO shipment from GL and ran online to check before pouring my FO into 180 degree wax! So it is OK to pour it into the high temp melted wax? BTW what smell did you get? I got Vanilla Sugar and mixing it with rose.
  20. I just got GL Pumpkin Spice and Apple Spice in the mail today! which I plan to do in the Walgreen's crock containers tonight. Not sure if I want to do it with soy or just my usual paraf.
  21. Vicky, Thanks. I am taking your warning about any amounts of water seriously. It is my first time working with soy and I am surprised by how different it is. I would rather have someone warn me than burn down my home in testing something I am not yet 100% experienced with. Thank you for watching my back.
  22. Hi, you may want to see my thread on emulsifyers - the last post as I am trying to figure out why this happens and I have a theory you can check out. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=288680#post288680 Basically the ecosoya has guidelines for how much % FO to mix and I think if you go even a teeny bit over it seperates. So I think if an emulsifyer is used to help incorporate more oil into the wax, it may help raise % to 8-9 or who knows. But I may be wrong. The Soy Additive is an emulsyfyer, and there are others, but I don't know, this all needs to be tried out. I hope that sheds light a little. And I hope my test in the next few days show something, or maybe they will be a big bunch a mushy goo.
  23. This wax is specifically made for candles. EcoSoya CB Pure Soy Candle Wax. http://www.ngiwax.com/ProductInformation/CB-PureSoy.php In addition I did not add any water, gosh no! I added 2 drops of water based food coloring to 1lb of wax. I did not say to add water to the wax. I am only investigating certain issues users on the boards have mentioned, two big ones being frosting and seperation with the oil. I did not add any detergent. I actually did some research and the Soy Additive that people have been having success with is in fact an emulsifyer. When I discovered the ingredients to the USA it was the same chemical I used as an emulsifyer. I also called EcoSoya's technical support about this and they confirmed that the product's ability to accept 6% FO is due to the hydrogenation (sp?) process which enables the product to have water soluable charactaristics - thus biodegradeable. The tech said that as long as the ballance and ratios are accurate to the product specifications, there should be no seperation, and little or no frosting. How accurate these claims are I personally can't confirm yet. A quote from the ecosoya website: Depending on the blend we then add the finest botanical oils available to give EcoSoya™ waxes their unparalleled characteristics and performances. These ingredients are processed under close supervision with careful regard for secrecy. Only a select few people know the actual ingredients and how our wax is made after it is hydrogenated. Vicky: I completely agree with you on the safety issues, especially with water and FO. I'm new to the boards but have been making candles since I was 18. The reason I began this thread is that I love soy wax, and if there are new things we can dig up and learn to make our throws better, or burns better, or anything better, than I believe it is worth looking into. When I did an ecosoya search and read some of the issues users were facing, I wanted to help understand the chemestry behind why. I was completely shocked when my colorant would not mix (I'm wondering if it is a oil based pigment). The ecosoya site gives specific ways to mix in color and states pigments will not dissolve in melted wax. They say to try and dissolve them in the FO first and then mix with wax? sounds fishy so i'll just skip it all together and use powder that is safe and proven.. The site is a valuable resource for those having issues with this brand. Tomorrow I plan on making some test candles with the ecosoya % recs and done by the book via their recipe. Then I plan to do a test of 9% FO with SoyAdditive (emulsifyer). Then finally maybe adding 3-5% StearicAcid to see how it helps/hinders. What I would like to find out is IF the soy additive allows a higher % of FO to be incorporated into the mix. And would that improve the throw. I think it is an important issue for us as many have complained that soy weakens the scent strength. OK I have rambled, and I need sleep. But I am so fascinated by this. I hope I am not being a jerk or anything about this topic and being new to the boards. I don't want to come across that way at all. So forgive me if in any way I offend. I don't own a business so my sole intention for obsessing over this is my passion for candlemaking and B&B. I am totally new to soap tho! never made it in my life and would love to try. But that is another day. Goodnight
  24. It was odd. I used 100% ecosoya and it took the water based food colorings so perfectly. They did not seperate, nothing. I was shocked too. I had the thermometer on it the whole time and I mixed at 175. I don't know why the oil did not mix. Even using the immersion blender the oil color seperated from the melted soy wax. Maybe it is something with the ecosoya. It is very water soluable. I will do more tests tomorrow as I see on the boards that others are having seperation problems and i believe it may be the water solubility of this wax. I will get pix up. I mean how can it be that water based grocery store food coloring dissolved PERFECTLY in this wax? Also the emulsified batch I did had no frosting. *scratches head* hmm
  25. I absolutely love this scent. It is from FRESH and is in their Soda shampoo. I have tried to copy it as it is a mix of lavendar, grapefruit, mint, lemon and some fragrance they add to it. I can't find dupes anywhere and am thinking of getting a formulation custom made. Also the standard DOVE cream wash from Europe has a very particular scent that is unavailable in the USA and my DH is obsessed with it. He buys 15 bottles of Dove cream wash whenever he is in Europe. Do you think there is anywhere I can send a sample of the body wash to get the scent copied? thanks!
