  1. I ordered some soy whip from KY to make for gifts for Christmas just for family. Anyway, in searching on here I found that some people have problems with mold. I didn't know if this was with recent batches of the soy whip or if it was an older problem. Also, is it with certain FOs?

    Thanks!

  2. Cool! I'm glad you all enjoyed it. I just ordered a kit for my daughter for Christmas. She is going to flip when she opens it. She loves crafts and was griping the other day because she bought some lip balm and it's very hard. I actually tried it and it was hard. It didn't smooth on like lip balm should. Anyway, I'll have to post pics after Christmas when she makes her stuff. She'll think she's big stuff then! lol

  3. I'm using the self-centering wicks from KY. They're 36-24-24C. I haven't tested for scent throw, just testing to make sure the wick is okay for the size. I went shopping today and bought some 2 oz glass measuring cups and I'm making my votives in those. They are straight and not tapered like the Dixie cups. I'll probably use Dixie cups later on if I decide to make more. Plus, I got a heat gun! lol I told my boyfriend, that thing could blow dry my hair in 2 seconds flat! lol And NO, I would not use it to dry my hair! :)

  4. I had a problem with with my melts a while back with something else and got a suggestion on this board which actually helped with my scent throw as well. I melted the wax (I used PureSoy at the time) and waited until it was slushy before adding my FO and pouring into the containers. I ended up having stronger hot throws than when adding the FO at a higher temp.

  5. I don't use that kind of wax, but I have 2 cubes out of my clamshell that I have had in the warmer for a total of 8 hours (not 8 hours straight! LOL) that still throws scent. Of course, it's Lonestar's Cool Water! It's a good one. I have had some that I literally had to pour out of the warmer because I got sick of smelling them and had them in the warmer for 20+ hours. I don't know if it depends on the wax or the FO.

  6. I'm scrapping the plastic votive molds. Darn things. I finally get the bottoms almost smooth and the tops cracked. Anyway, I found a thread on here about using Dixie cups as votive molds. I just wondered if there was a straight Dixie cups. I think they are all tapered but I'm not sure. Anyway, the plastic molds are going. I don't like them and am not using them again! lol

  7. I think the metal ones would be much easier. I'm doing these for my brother and they are a pain! The ones I got done that I tested are burning great and the colors (lavendar and yellow) came out beautiful. It's getting the bottom of the votive to come out straight with no dimpling. I got a plan, though! lol Okay, I did the cooler pour and it was too cool. My next batch I'm going to pour at a warmer temp and pour just below the top and then top it off later, but when I top it off, I'm going to pour a little over the top since my counters aren't level and then either cut off the excess with a hot knife or melt the bottom to flatten it out. Either way, I'm gonna get these down and then I'm done with the plastic molds!

  8. I did when I first started out but after visiting this board I now order from BCS, Peaks, and I think I ordered some from KY. I recently placed an order from Lonestar for the Lemon Chiffon, Cinnamon Apple Berry, and a sample of the Cool Water. They are awesome. I didn't have any complaints from the FOs from gelluminations, but when I ordered the same scent from one of the above companies, I could tell a difference. My cinnamon bun from Peaks smelled more like cinnamon buns. I do like the French Vanilla from gelluminations, though. I don't care for the one from Peaks, but thats just me! :)
