  1. I am kinda confused! I have started making soap and have a soapmaker program on my computer that I purchased at the Arizona Gathering. It came with some recipes and then I added a few-have only made a few so far. It gives me the amount for the water and lye based on the percentages of each oil I am using. What is to superfat-say 20%-as was being spoke of in another thread? is that more oil and less lye so it does not trace all the way? I am confused! Would I use the same recipe and lower lye or water? Thanks!!!
  2. Thanks-may try it out this weekend and get back to you! It is sad when you are SO tired you fall asleep while eating!!
  3. I am headed towards doing my first show-at my house with another friend who does jewlery-in time for the holidays I was planning on inviting primarily people we knew so was thinking it could be a cash show and checks from close friends. Then I was thinking it would be nice to take credit cards. I sell stuff on ebay and half.com and have a paypal account. I also have invoiced things not listed on those sights and emailed them to people and had them pay. Via email. Is there a way to use, say paypal, and as someone is standing there-make an invoice for whatever items and atomatically enter there credit card in and have it clear and such-without invoicing it and sending it to there email and having them retrieve the email and pay and stuff? I am not set up with a credit card machine and do not think it is necessary or feasible-but do not want to lose sales based on not taking credit cards-since that is what people use!! I love paypal! And if i did use a system like this for those who desired-would it be reasonable to charge like 50 cents or 1.00 or something since paypal takes a little off the top? ?Just tell them in advance? THANKS!
  4. I am doing my first little "fair" in Nov-in time for christmas. My thoughts were to print off some fliers-to leave in break room at work, will probably change my signature on my email a month in advance with info about it, thought would post in my housing development and put a blurb on Craigslist. Thought that might make a decent turn out-without overwhelming since it is my first and I am newer at this and don't want 100's of people! Craigslist is free and it is amazing how many people use it! Post in arts and craft section and in events type section!
  5. I am seeing about adding powdered milk and canned evaporated milk to soap. If you were to do this-what different quality would it give it-and would you just substitute like a couple ounces for one of the oils? or put a whole little can? or how much powdered milk?
  6. Thanks for the replies-may just give some time-think accuracy of my scale may be an issue!! And believe it or not-duting the monsoons in the summer-we get some "serious" humidity going on-or feels pretty darn serious! May go peak at soap now!!
  7. I got some wax to make tarts and some little tins. Anyone have a suggestion on how much wax to melt for 12 and how much oil to add to get a nice throw? I have a selection of oils and am dying to make some and get them melting! Thanks!!

  9. Hi! I am a beginning CP maker. Made one batch late last week that was too soft to cut the first day-so I let it sit iver night again and went to cut it. It was still very soft-but was able to get it out of the box without too much damage. Made a few soap balls and have all resting. How long should it take if it was going to harden? Made a small different batch couple days before and are the right kind of hard!! Or when should i decide to toss it in on this one? If you do "rebatch" does that mena i throw it all in the pot and heat/melt and remold? or add stuff? Thanks!!
  10. Do you suggest a log mold or slab-one over the other? I may take the suggestion to use a shoe box or pan with parchment paper first. And explore wood options! Any suggestions help!!
  11. I am wanting to try my first cold process soap. Have found a recipe for a 25 ounce -about 6 bars And also about a 4 lb recipe-I think -that sound appealing In the directions they show the soap being poured into wood looking boxes. Does anyone have a suggestion where to locate such boxes? And what size would be ideal for a 6 bar recipe-and which for a more 4 lb recipe? I do not want to start and then realize there is nowhere to pour! And I line the inside with towel? Or wax paper? Thanks!! A new newbie!!!
  12. A lot of the times you can get all different size PVC at like Lowe's We have all types of diameter that we got for other projects
  13. I made an olive oil base MP and it is really oily-should I do something to cut back on this-or are the oil based ones naturally going to feel oily?
  14. I have been using some Acorn Supply MP soaps and they have been working out pretty well and I have been experimenting with the different scents. What would be the next logical step in soap making? And what is a good suggestion for purchasing lye? TIA
  15. Hey there! I bought a presto pot and was all ready to get the supplies needed and make my pot this weekend-following the directions on this website. The directions call for 3/8" pieces-nipple, elbow, and valve-which were not difficult to locate. It also called for a 19/32" drill bit and a thread tap. We were unable to locate these dimensions at either Lowe's or Home Depot-our local hardware stores. Does anyone have a helpful suggestion regarding possibly using 1/4 or 1/2 inch pieces and what size drill bit/thread tap one would need-if these sizes may be more accessible? Or where one would get there hands on the original desired sizes! I have purchased new waxes and am dying to try them out! Thanks!!
