  1. That would be my luck to Robin. Our drains are already a bit dodgy, rotten landlord wont do anything about it. So last thing i need is soap in it. He'd probably finally send out the plumber and then find the soap i'd get stuck paying the bill.... :laugh2:
  2. Cool thanks, wont be doing HP for a while stick with CP till i master it, I'm about to try M&P soon. So they'll keep me busy when i've accomplished them properly then i'll head for the HP. Thanks for the heads up.
  3. ROFLMFAO.... how the heck do you make soap balls??? I've never heard of them sorry, I was thinking of starting a new soap chunkies range though...hehe
  4. Thanks carolgrant, I'm a little dissapointed that they got stuck in the container, But like I just said to Shaun, i didn't really expect the soap itself to even turn out, so beggers can't be choosers and at least now i know that i actually made soap. He's quite excited he's never seen me in the kitchen so much . All i have to do now is change my method next time and hopefully the result will be an improvement so from there things can only get better. As for the scraps making washcloths is a brilliant idea. I put the scraps into a container but thinking i should of left them out to cure aswell. My 10 yr old daughter is forever having a bath and leaving the soap in the water...yuck makes my skin crawl picking out gooey soap. So she'd be perfect for these scraps...lol I don't mean that nasty. The MIL is already on my back to make another batch.
  5. not a problem, would wax paper work or would it stick to it, I noticed my bath cookies stuck to the wax paper. Mind you they also went rock hard...lol
  6. Thanks everyone so much for making me feel like i've achieved something. Which i certainly do feel that. Carolgrant your mind's eye is very spot on...lol I tried gouging, levering, stabbing, throwing, thumping, dropping you name it i tried it and it wouldn't budge. Hubby got some muscle into it and finally got it out but it broke in half in the process. So I did get small soaps out of it.. Now I know to line the mould with something or spray it. Think Lining it would be better, but not sure what to use, I think our butchers just use plain white paper not freezer paper. Thank you so much to everyone who has offered well wishes and advice while i was still being too chicken to try..
  7. Ok I made my CP last night as most of you know, I didn't spray or line my mould with anything. Carolgrant advised me to try to lever it out with something which i did. I ended up breaking it all in half so i have very thin, half soaps...lol like i said in my other thread it was a bit of a half a$$ed attempt anyways i got antsy to make soap . So after finally getting it out of the mould I ended up with heaps of little baby soaps about 2inch square and managed to get 2 pretty good sized soaps out of the whole batch. But me being a perfectionist tried to get it squared off and level..... :laugh2: . Needless to say my good size soap kept getting smaller, and smaller and smaller. So i decided to stoap while i still had some soap left. I tongue tested and no zap so thinking that's a good thing, don't taste too good though..hehe. My mother in law was here she pinched a scrap to try and LOVED IT TO PIECES. And has decided she wants all my little babies and they made all her jewellery super super shiny.. So cut a long story short I'm gonna have to invest in something decent to cut soaps. Not much talent in that area for me. Turns out I have more scraps then soap....lol So here are the pics anyway. Just don't laugh like my husband and daughter did...lol Was gonna do M&P tonight but gonna give it a miss now, try tomorrow.
  8. Thanks carolgrant. NO it definately wasn't so bad at all, I can feel a new addiction coming on....hhhmmmm Just got to think of something absorbant now, i'm assuming paper towel will stick to it, so gonna suss out what i've got lying around. I'm guessing there will probably be areas that i will gouge when i take it out so i'll trim them up nice and then i'll have scraps for confetti soap. Wasn't too happy hubby had decided we are off to melbourne which is 3 hours from here so wont be doing much soaping tonight, but then realised Melbourne has EVERYTHING so i'll be able to go to some shops and get bowls, spoons etc.. I'll try to find a good thermometre while im there too I might try to get it out tonight when i get home (more like 2 in the morning) I've been reading people trim theirs up with a vegetable peeler so i'll get a good one of those in melbourne too, leave the cruddy plastic one for the kitchen...hehe How do I wrap the soap when it is out and when should i wrap it. I've heard a lot about saran wrap but don't know what we call that in australia.
  9. Thanks everyone for your kind words, The log mould I used is just a container i use for my ice cubes in the freezer. Nothing fancy it was all I could find, My real moulds turned up this morning. I wasn't sure if i did the swirls properly or not. I wanted a solid colour on what will be the top of the soap when it is cut with swirls coming down the soap. So i poured the coloured CP along the side of the container. Ran the stick down the side of the container to hopefully get all the colour to the bottom of it so the top of the soap will be that colour (notice i said hopefully) then i used the stick and just went up and down in a curly motion. It's all cooled down now and the colour has turned to more of a pink then it was last night. And the fragrance has settled more today too, I couldn't smell it last night but today i can smell the fragrance better. I didn't spray the container before i put it in so i'm debating how the heck i'm going to be getting it out, and also when i should be taking it out. Was really worried about even trying to do CP now i've done it I wonder why i just lurked around the forums etc. instead of getting in there and doing it. I'm dying to make another batch but want to see if this turns out first. Thanks everyone
  10. I did read on this forum some where about cleanin up after making soap, I cannot for the life of me remember if it was an actual topic or a post from someone in a another topic. I've just been searching CT for ages and cannot find anything. I can remember it stated that when making soaps it's better to clean your things the next day. But I cannot remember how it said to clean them or what the reason was for cleaning them the next day.. I have typed all sorts of stuff into the search box, been back through all threads i've posted in. And cannot find it any where. Any help, anyone can give me about where to find this thread OR how to clean up and when's best to do it would be super fantastic. All the dirty bowls and things are sitting there bugging me already
  11. Thanks Anita, I'm not worried about cutting it yet, i'm too busy trying desperately to stop myself from peeking. Was gonna make another batch but my SB is pretty noisy and all the kids are in bed.. as they should be it's 1.55am here.. Don't really want to go waking them just for soap....lol Seriously though can't wait to cut it. Don't know how i'm gonna cut it but still can't wait... Will post when i do.
  12. Thanks carolgrant, I've just tucked it up nice and tight, not sure how many towels i should of put around it but trust me it has plenty now....lol It's already starting to change in appearance, it looked more firmer but also fluffy in a way. if that makes sense. Is that normal. I did fiddle a bit with the recipe and added a tiny touch more coconut and less olive.
  13. Thanks everyone. I just made my first CP soap tonight and used the ice cube container (not the ice cube tray) that was out of my old fridge. But i didn't spray it so hopefully if it doesn't come out 15 minutes in the freezer will work. I've added spray to my list of must gets for tomorrow. Glad I read about the EO's with plastic cups. I covered my scales with cling wrap when i made soap but i'd still hate to clean EO off my bench and floor, then be stuck with the strong smell on my hands.. I love EO's but too strong i get headaches and hubby gets migranes so that tip was extremely useful to me thank you all.
  14. Thank you all so much for your replies. She's all done now i have to try to be patient which is one thing i'm not too good at. I've posted pics but not sure if it should be wrapped in towels and blankets or not, ooohhh another 24 hours at least... drats Luckily i did put it in a plastic bowl i didn't realise it foaps up a bit, it never would of fit in my pot.
  15. Thank you both for your replies. I had to add the colour so i figured it more then likely might not turn out anyway so i did in fact add food colouring. I was hoping for purple so i added red with blue on a 3:1 ratio. Then when i had it all sorted out got to my computer to post pics to read the reply to this message that blue will eventually go purple.. I just sat here and laughed. Lord only knows what colour mine will turn out then...hehe Not sure if it will turn out but i sure did have fun experimenting.. Hubby is cringing already...lol
  16. Thank you firstly to everyone who I have bugged for the last few hours especially but more so the last few days. It has really meant alot to me that you have all helped me even with my most annoying questions... Well here is the pics of my soap that's just been poured. This was using AJ's simple beginners recipe. Although i'm changing it's name to "biggest half a$$ed attempt soap". My scales arrived today i bought all my oils waited till after supper so the kids would be more settled. Realised i'd forgotten a thermometre. Posted for help. Got to where i had to add colour. Realised i didn't have any other then food colouring. Posted for help again. Finally sorted that out and then couldn't think of what I could use for a mould (mine should be here from my supplier tomorrow) anyway like i said half a$$ soap but here it is.. Not sure if it will unmould from this or not it's actually from my old fridge for ice cubes and the little one is the good ole tupperware didn't have enough olive oil only had 15.2oz so made it up with coconut oil so hopefully that's ok. Also my coconut oil has soy lechithin in it so i have my fingers crossed it all worked out. I finished it was taking photos and my 4 year old son has claimed it as his soap because he told me he was helping. Should I have this covered in towels and blankets????
  17. This is my first CP attempt it's 11.15pm no shops are open and i forgot colouring. I've mixed my lye, melted my oils just waiting for their temp to drop now.. I need liquid colouring.. Will food colouring work???? Any help would be great i'm just about ready to add it... Thanks Shaz!
  18. I've mixed my lye and melted my hard oils. I don't think my pot is going to be big enough to chuck the sb in aswell. Just this once till i get a proper pot tomorrow. Could I mix it in a large plastic bowl????
  19. WOW that is very suprising.. Pulling the cupboards apart now for something i can melt it all in... I tell ya if ever there was a half a$$ attempt at soap making this is it....lmao Why oh why did my scales have to turn up the day before i get paid :undecided
  20. Thanks carolgrant, I'll give the fishies thermometre alone, and might wait till the kids go to bed, my computer is in the kitchen near the fridge so when they go to bed i'll put the lye into the fridge, and if i sit here I can then keep an eye on the fridge to make sure they don't go wandering in their sleep... So that way i can wait till it's all warm and pour into something ... drats i'd better go find something i can use for a mould...lol I'll let you know how i go
  21. Thanks eugenia, I'm going to attempt AJ's simple beginners soap but forgot the rotten thermometer... When you say make soap when all are room temp. Does that mean that the lard and coconut oil doesn't go hard after it's been melted???? I'm assuming it would but I have no idea... Just wondering if i pinched the thermometer that i bought for my fish tank would that work. I also have a thermometer I bought for a salt water tank that i didn't use. Wondering if either of those would be ok.... I'd prefer not to leave my lye till tomorrow if i could help it as i have 4 children and even though i could put it up high and i know they wouldn't touch it if i told them not to, i 'd still rather be safe then sorry...
  22. I know this a dumb question before i even ask it but i'm still gonna ask... I got my new scales today, and i have all my oils and lye ready to go.. Just got home and realised that I don't have a thermometre.. Only a digital one that I use for the kids when they are sick... I intend to get one tomorrow when the shops are open again BUT...hehe here it comes Can i make soap tonight without a thermometre or are you gonna tell me i have to wait one more night..... :cry2: I'm desperate to make it and i think one more night is gonna kill me...literally...lol
  23. Thanks hun, I can get a jug like the one below from my supplier. Would this one be any good. Here is their description of it: 600ml Jug This medium sized jug is wonderful for making candles or soaps using a double boiler arrangement. The free handle is ideal for placing outside saucepans used for double boiler situations, to make for cooler handling when the time comes to pour. I realise 600ml probably wouldn't be any good for the whole double boiler idea that they had but would it be ok for everything else? They also have a 300ml jug.
  24. Thanks hun, as soon as the company i contacted decide to get of their lazy backsides and contact me back I will. I've decided it would be cheaper that way then i've always got some even if i get the urge at 2am in the morning and the stores are shut..(which often happens to me, been known to start sausage rolls at 3.45am...lol) Thank you for your help hun, much appreciated. Oh the things i didn't think through before i got addicted to the idea of soaping. :undecided
  25. LOL what's a Gizmo? That's usually what I call a thing i can't remember what it's real name is or thingamajig.... I'm going to use a stick blender but i've been reading about bringing close to trace and then mixing by hand. So a whisk would probably be very handy here... Alot of these things such as stainless steel measuring cups I can't get around here but will get what i can to start me off then i'll take my list when im in the city and get what i can. Thanks for all the help everyone, this is exactly what i needed.
