  1. What supplier has the best fo's for paraffin wax? I use J50 and 4794. I see a lot of recommendations for soy wax but am wondering about paraffin wax.

That's because soy wax is a bit more difficult to get a good throw with. Some Fo's do not work at all in soy, hell, some don't work in paraffin. Find a good supplier you like and go with them and test for yourself.

I am glad ICS oils work so well for you in all waxes Jodi. That's good to know.

  2. I agree...we need to get our butts in gear on this side of the border now!! At least the US is willing to help us out with the shipping...i'm thrilled with this news...if I can get 20lbs of oils shipped her for under 22.00, that's quite a savings! I was paying that for 4 lbs LOL

If it's anything like the flat rate Priority, no way are you getting 20 pounds of FO in there. It may hold 20 pounds of say nickels, but not large items.

  3. 3 things I can think of....

    1. the type of scent you are using...I have scents that use much hotter and I mean much hotter wicks than other scents.

    2. Blending thoroughly could be a problem. You wanna blend the daylights out of it...best suggestion is to go to home depot or some paint store and get yourself a metal (not plastic) paint mixer that hooks onto an electric drill. They come in different sizes so you can use your judgement on which to get.

    3. too much oil can cause it, though what you said (1oz pp or less than 6%) is not really that heavy, so probably not the answer. However, maybe adding some additive could solve the problem.

W/ that said...welcome to the wonderful world of candle making...keep track of all your variables and eventually, if you keep good records, you'll get r done. Through my years of experience, I've found groups of scents that are very similar in regards to burn characteristics to the point that if I test a new jar, I will know that scents a,b,c,d and e will need the same wick size as f. That way I only test f and know the others will work. But, until you've tested a,b,c,d,e and f enough times to conclusively see they are similar, you have to test each scent to see its properties.

Good luck to you and remember to keep it fun...:D

    LMAO, this is a first.

  4. Hey there, give them a call and talk to Carrie. She is very nice and I am sure she will help you out. I can see being apprehnsive if you are new to a company, but believe me a good company wants your business. Good luck, there actually may have been a reason they sent you that on instead. You'll be fine. I have done some biz with them, found them to be very nice. Take Care let us know how you make out. C

And why would they do that? Maybe they thought she wouldn't like the one she picked?

  5. WAHM Shoppes - The Home Pages looked nice. The prices were wonderful, but the actual product shopping pages just looked sloppy to me. I prefer product pages that allow a picture of the product with the product name, maybe a mini-description, then you click on that, and it pulls you to another page (or a pop-up page) with full details about the product. My product descriptions aren't short. So if they can't click to a separate page for the FULL product description, then my pages will be INCREDIBLY long, and will look very cluttered and sloppy.

You obviously didn't look closely. All these things are available with Wahm shops and more.

As far as HCM, I wouldn't advise it, very risky. DIY is another where you wouldn't have to worry about service.

  6. I can understand all the UK candlemakers being upset and worried, but please put the blame where it really belongs, with the USPS laws. Please be considerate of a suppliers' reputation before you plant negative thoughts into others' minds, especially newbies, who might not have ever ordered from a supplier you mention.

I try to put myself in another business person's shoes. There is no supplier on earth who is going to please everyone in every way. I would not want to deal with one who does not follow the law. If they can't be trusted to do so, then how can I trust them? I'm sure BCN is in business, not only to make money just as us candlemakers are, but will do the best they can in the time frame they can, to service their customers. They have always gone out of their way to give me great service, and I am just a small-time customer of theirs. I do not wish to try to damage any business' reputation unless they willfully do me a disservice, because I know how I would feel if one of my customers did this to me. All I'm saying is, please try to remember this. Sometimes what we say or do to damage another can come home to us. I know many will be inconvenienced and hurt financially by these laws, but we can and will adjust somehow. That's just a part of life.

Nothing is guaranteed to stay the same. We just have to roll with the punches and hang in there until it gets better.

Cissy, did you not read and comprehend this thread? USPS is not to blame either. Where did you come up with that? They don't make their own regulations on these matters, the government does, as well as the airlines. Did you happen to read that email BCN sent out? No one is trying to ruin them. For them to say we should tell our other suppliers about this is ridiculous and unprofessional. These laws have been in place for years. Look at their site, they list all the flash points of all their oils. I do not think it would be too hard to fix their site saying ground only under the ones that can't go USPS and adjust their shopping cart accordingly. Is there something you just don't get? No one is talking about their customer service. I have always gotten great service from them.

  7. FOH just added parcel post. Now there is a supplier going out of her way to help this situation and also shipping USPS for the oils within the regulations.

Don't hold your breath for BCN to fix their website, they have been working on it for years with absolutely no progress. For them to even attempt to run their site like ICS and others concerning FO's, is like pissing in the wind.

  8. I still get a lot shipped USPS. I asked yesterday at my PO and they knew nothing about it. Who knows if any of this is true. Maybe they all are jumping on this bandwagon just to eliminate USPS so they can simplify thier life just using UPS.
