  1. I adored my old faithful GL 70/30 wax, but since I can't get that anymore - I'm looking for something similar. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it! Meanwhile, I'll be hunting through all the supplier sites to see if I can narrow it down. I'd prefer NOT to have to make my own blend..
  2. I'm comparing waxes online to decide on what to order to try out.. I have it narrowed down to 415 and Ecosoya Xcel I think. I had also been looking at 464, but a lot of reading said the 415 had a much better HT. I'm not incredibly worried about the appearance of the candle as far as the issues of the frosting with the 415, but would adding beeswax help this?
  3. From my understanding, it means when you get a bit of sinkage around the wick, you pour a 2nd round of wax on the top to hopefully achieve a flat top. I haven't made a candle in several years (doing some wax research online now to hopefully get back into it), but the only time I ever had to do a 2nd pour was with pillars (which I HATED). My GL 70/30 never required a 2nd more on my containers, but that wax is sadly no longer available (that I can find) since their biz closed.
  4. I've noticed a lot of places I look online do NOT have feet on the bottom of the metal tins.. is this something that I really want on my candles? Or is not a big deal?
  5. I have a few wickless candles that I made several years ago, 5-7 years ago, left over. Made with Greenleaf's 70/30 I believe. Think they'll be any good?
  6. I've been out of the loop for awhile, but I've never heard of this FO... lol good luck!
  7. Those look beautiful! I hope your show did well!
  8. I'm wanting to try out tins for my soy and blend candles - if any of you care to share, where do you get your tins from? Thanks!
  9. I was a regular here several years ago, back when the forum was still Candletech. I am wanting to get back into candle making and would love to go a more soy route this time. My old fav wax was Greenleaf's 70/30, but since I've learned they closed, that's not available anymore. I have looked around at different wax options online and I think I've narrowed it down to wanting to try Ecosoya Xcel. I want something that is preferably single pour with a nice look to it without dyes. I plan to do colorless candles for a more 'natural' appearance. Anyone have experience with this wax that they can share? If it helps I plan to go back to my old faithful Ball style canning jars. I still have a lot of HTP 1212 wicks left in my stash from probably 5+ years ago, these are still ok to use right? These are what I had used with the 70/30 in these jars and had good tests with them, but I know that may change with a different wax. If you use Ecosoya Xcel and use the Ball canning jars that you can get at WalMart (I believe they're 1 pint size), what wick do you refer to? Thanks in advance!
  10. Broiler pot. Looks like a spaghetti pot with one inside another so the water surrounds the pot... I dunno, that's what I call it.
  11. Sorry I just wasn't sure in which department I should post it.
  12. I've been using tons of paper towels cleaning the wax from my broiler and pouring pot after each batch. Is there an easier trick I havent figured out yet?

  14. Well I took a long break from candlemaking... sold most of my supplies... and never made another candle for 2 years because I thought I didn't have any supplies left... I was wrong! I have about 30 lbs of wax, all my fav wicks and the jars to match them, and several FO options! So I made my first 2 candles in 2 years. Two 12 oz mason jars, 1 HTP1212 & 1 HTP1312, RE Heavenly type. So far they look pretty good!! Will test the burn in a day or so...
  15. I have a few pounds of JS 70/30 that I want to use. I can't seem to find any info on this wax though. Can anyone tell me what temp on this wax to add color/scent & pour? Thanks in advance!
  16. I'm with everyone else on the second one, really cool! I love the first one too tho!
  17. Well if it makes you feel any better, I think it's looks kinda cool on the solid colored pillar. :smiley2:
  18. Is that the Soy125 from Candlewic? I had a mashed potato-y top to my candles with that stuff too. Can't stand the stuff. I still have about 5lbs that I dont know what to do with, I dont like how it looks at all.
