  1. You could also add vybar to hold the scent. That's if you're using paraffin...I add 1 tsp/lb with 6ish% fo.
  2. I haven't heard of CDN's. Please enlighten me. (:
  3. I'm going to continue to give cd's a try. I can still go upwards in size. If nothing else, maybe I could triple wick??
  4. Ok, so I've tried eco, rrd, cd...what would be best next? LX? HTP? Do you know which one can handle a heavier fo? I'm so sad about it because two of these naughty fo's are my Christmas scents! (Or should I say Holiday scents?)
  5. Thanks Boyd! I guess I was figuring that by the 3rd burn I should have a full melt pool. I'll have to give it more time. Do you think it matters if the wick has been trimmed? For instance, the other day, when I was going to light one, I accidently bumped the wick and it broke down to at least 1/4 or less. That candle burned really well on the previous burn, but then was a little sluggish. I figured that 1/4" was ideal, though. I hadn't planned on trimming those wicks...do you trim your cd's?
  6. Once when I ordered from bcn, they forgot something I had ordered. When I called customer service, they knew who I was even before giving my name because they had realized their mistake and were just going to call me. They sent out my stuff that day, and when I got it, the person who had made the mistake sent a little note saying "sorry" and gave me a chocolate chip cookie. Nice.
  7. The only "license" you would need is a seller's permit--you'll have to check your state's laws especially regarding selling out of state and what they want to do about sales tax--tax reporting, etc. Also, I would highly encourage you to obtain business liability insurance. It's worth it if you do it right.
  8. Ok, so for all you soy veterans, could someone please tell me exactly what the "ideal" burn would be for a pure soy candle? I'm having really good burns with the cd's for some of my fo's, but was wondering what some guidelines may be...such as how fast to reach fmp, if a little hangup is ok, how warm should the jar be, how quickly should the wax be burning off, etc. I know that some of this will be subjective, but what exactly constitutes a safe, good burning candle? I know this seems pretty basic, and sorry.
  9. I'm looking for some cheap, yet decent risers for my upcoming shows. If you don't use risers, what works for you?
  10. So, my wick testing saga continues, but on a brighter note! I decided to go to the source...bcn, which is where I get my wax. They have a wonderful chat function on their site to help out us desperate chandler's. I spoke with Flicker at length, and she helped me figure it out. So, now I'm using two cd's. I love this wick! I had really good results with most of my scents, and am still testing. I'm on my way! So, if anyone is still in the dark about this wax and jar, try cd's. You can start with 12's and move on from there.
  11. Really? I have a great sales person that I deal with. I guess who you get depends on where you live. Have you used their fo's with soy?
  12. Their Pumpkin Pie Special is really nice. It's in the closeout section. I haven't been really impressed by their other scents, but everyone has a different opinion. Check out their testing results. Also, they have a message board on their site where people review their scents. Hope that helps!
  13. I'm having a heck of a time trying to wick my 100% soy 16 & 26oz. apothecary jars. I'm on my third type of wick, and I'm coming really close with two CD14's for some scents, but with five of my scents all I have is a tiny flame and it's gutting out with both CD 12's and 14's . I'm just wondering if it could be the fo?. I'm also using French Color liquid dye at no more than 7 drops per lb. Don't really understand what's up. Any feedback on your experiences with FCF is much appreciated. I love these scents! I really want them to work. :undecided
  14. This is just a thought, but what about inviting your neighbors? Also, if you work, invite some people from work. Have your friends invite their other friends or family. I've never done a candle party myself, but that's what I would do. Good luck!
  15. Thanks! It's definately something that I'll have to work on. Do you think 80 gauge is the right thickness?
  16. I believe Pourette also does custom molds.
  17. I don't know a whole lot, but I know that if you go to google, there's a place where you submit your site. I did it and it came up right away. Also, I think you have to join yahoo in order to submit your site to their search engine. If you advertise you get a better listing. I'd be interested to hear what everyone else has to say.
  18. I know that there has been a lot of discussion about shrinkwrapping, but here's my issue. I just got my shrink tubing for my pillars. I've been testing it out because I'm really new at shrinkwrapping, and have found that I can't get the film tight and smooth. It looks like there are teardrops and lines...not to mention the ugly corners. I've seen some discussion about what to do with the corners, but what about the smoothness? I'm using 80 gauge tubing, and am starting at one end with my heatgun and moving it constantly all over the candle until I get to the other end. Am I doing something wrong?? Thanks!
  19. As this batch has been cooling, the chemical scent has gone away. Thank goodness!
  20. Yeah, it's a chemical smell. I was hoping it would go away. Yuck. Maybe my nose is too sensitive (I don't know how this is possible after all these years of candlemaking ).
  21. I just got some liquid dye that smells. I know that this is common, but I swear I can smell it in my candles. Does this go away?
  22. Thanks for the support. It's good to have this forum because I can't imagine how long it would take me to figure it out on my own. I haven't been trimming the wicks at all. I love the look of these jars, so I'm determined to stick with them. Yeah, I was thinking I could use less fo and see how it goes. Actually I did see your post about the eco wick drowning, and the same thing happened to me. It happened on the second burn within 1 minute of being lit. That cancelled eco out for me. I need results--Christmas is coming!
