  1. Deeken, First, WELCOME! I'm a newbie and find each month some kind of way to squuueeezzzeee a little more out of the budget for a new FO or wax I want to try, my suggestions are this...

    Presto Kitchen Kettle-Walmart $22.00

    Candy them- Walmart $2.75

Pack of wooden spoons- Walmart $1.75

The jarstore will send you 4 sample jars to try for free.

Peaks has a very nice wick sampler.

I would be glad to send you some FO's to try.

Do some looking around, find a wax you would be intersted in and then click the search button on this site, it is a GREAT resourse. THEN, find a supply co. close to you and call to see if they have SAMPLE sizes and prices.

Hope this helps, good luck to you!

  2. It has it's pro's and con's.

I quit using it several years ago because of the bleeding issue when hot. At a 6% FO load (which it can hold with no problems), all is well under most circumstances. BUT....if the finished candle is in room temp conditions of about 85 degrees or higher, the oil will begin to bleed out the top. It's not a matter of too much oil, it will do it even with 2-3% FO. It's simply a temperature issue. I had candles in a couple retail stores that had no AC, and it was not a pretty site.

Beth- so you would not reccommend? LOL Is there another soy wax blend that will give the same look, that crystalized look?
  3. I usually only make one, because after a while you learn to guess fairly accurately which size wick to use with which types of fo's. If I get the wicking right the first time, which I usually do (knock on wood!), then that's it. If my test burns prove I didn't get the wicking right, I pour another with a different wick size. Usually that one's good to go.
Hold the Presses...What's your secret to "Guessing" for each FO? Strong FO, bigger wick??? I'm going to get this wick thing down yet.:P
