Well, it comes down to the luck of the draw, doesn’t it? All 6006 wax is made by the same manufacturer (IGI) , just distributed by resellers. Ditto 464.

one thing many of us learned over the years is the variance from batch to batch of wax is unpredictable and can vary wildly no matter which distributor it went through. The supply issues related to Covid-19 just turned up the volume so loud we can’t pretend it doesn’t exist.  We have not found any accountability from anyone in the supply chain, so we learn our wax as well as we can, and recognize where it needs to be tweaked to work within our zone of acceptable.

ok thank you so much for your help!!

  2. Hi guys, I was getting ready to make a big order from the flaming candle for wax and fragrances, but seems their IGI 6006 is out of stock!! T_T Do you guys think I can trust candle science wax IGI6006? I only tried their GB 464 and didn't work for me very well, so now I am kinda scared.... What do you think?

I check for sink holes on every candle.

A sink hole will drain the wax from the melt pool into the cavity, flare, and give a false read on the wick.

Most mistake it for being too small of a wick and continue to wick up, when it is just a fault in the wax set up.

OOh that makes so much sense!! Thank you ❤️

I always check for sink holes/cavities because they wreck a candle burn faster than anything.

even on your testing? also, seems that the HT is not working :( what it could be?? everything was perfect..

To my eye it looks like the wax had a cavity near the wick toward the top

the tiny melt pool combined with the length of wick both point to that

see if you can scrape out a little wax to somewhat level the top, then trim the wick as usual and light again.

cd and Cdn definitely do lean and curl a LOT. Annoys me to no end.

ooh ok. Yes I will try that and let you know.

So I was thinking that a they had some sink hole but I didn't fix them because they were tester, do you think that's what caused it?

Also, I used a heat gun before I wicked the jar and poured the wax...

    Thank you!!

It is good you have other sizes.  Not every FO works with the same wick size.

CDN wicks are under rated. In soy they burn cooler/less efficiently than the CD counterpart.  In other waxes they seem to burn much more efficiently.

Hi Tall!! I have a question, I used the CDN 4 and it worked fine with my jar from CS, now I had to switch jars since they are always out of stock and for some reason when I tried with half jar for the testing it worked out great, then I tried the full jar and the wick keep curving and falling into the wax. What it can be? Am i cutting it too short?

Both candles have the CDN.4 and secured on the bottom. I don't know why this is happening

US Weights and Measures laws require the minimum weight of the jar contents to be on the label. Your actual weight can go over, but cannot legally be under.

wax candles are weighed, not measured in fluid ounces since the finished product is a solid at room temp, and not poured like oil or water.

I would weigh a decent sample size of your candles to find the minimum weight of all fragrances in the wax you pour. There can be slight differences between fragrances just because of density.

Put the lowest possible weight on the label. account for any accidental short pours.

I have the exact amount of wax and Fo that I am using for each candle, and it's exactly 6.8 oz to get at the point that I want. So do you think I should put 7 oz? I am just talking about the label.

Also, this was directly for you, which kind of wick CDN are exactly? cotton?  i wanst able to find it

  8. Hey guy, so I am working on the label of my candles, I have a question, my candles are 6.8 oz, should I just put 7oz? I just want to make sure that my customers knows the right weight and don't have problems. Also, my jar is supposed to have a capacity of 5.8 but my wax on it to fill at the line is 6.8 oz. What should I do?

I used Presto pots.  I use an electric griddle to keep all my pour pots warm between pours.
6006 is prone to holes, sometimes they lurk under the surface and you don't know they are there.  I use a metal skewer to poke holes all the way to the bottom of the jar and then top off with a little remaining wax to fill in all the holes.  Just hold back a bit of the scented wax when you pour.  I usually wait until the following day.....poke my holes, reheat the wax and top off the candles. You can also use a heat gun, but I find it much easier and more foolproof to do repours.  Containers that are taller than they are wide, like 16oz mason jars, are very prone to holes and I have not found a way to prevent them. Smaller containers and wide containers are easier...you can usually prevent holes by pouring into preheated jars and insulating them to slow down the cool.

Thank you so much! Yes I was thinking about getting an heat gun and extra pitchers to make the process easier. I just need to start making some moeny back..T_T

  10. hey guys, finally I am able to start making my candles! So I have a few questions for you:

    - How do you deal with sink hole in 6006? Do you pour a little bit wax when the candle is ready?and if you do so do you add just plain melt wax or you add fragrance?( and how do you work around the quantity if you do so?)

-are you guys using Presto Pot? I was watching a video where they were saying to re heat the pitcher before pouring and mesuring the wax, do you do that?

I used the presto pot yesterday ( only becasue I had it already ) and all the process it was a little bit frustrated to be honest with you. SO now I have more concerned about on how to save money about bills ( buying a separated electric stove and keep doing double boil or using the presto pot).

    Thank you!!

  11. i have a question about my ended product. I have the jar from CS ( medium straight jar) and on their page said it can hold 5.8 oz on wax, but I have my jar with 6.8oz final product. How is that possible? I fill it at line. I tried with their formula and their measurement but it doesn't fill the jar. Is that normal?

yes, I will definitely try the other sizes with other fragrances, I am trying to get done at least 3/4 fragrances so I can make them and start getting customers! Thank you so much for your advice!

In an other note, I think Aztec lost my business. I have been waiting for more than 2 weeks for their customers support to help out with the issues I had and still nothing. I am so disappointed on them.

  13. @TallTayl I got the CDN from SixteenSeventeen and for the FIRST time I had a good/decent HT with CDN4!!! Thank you so much!! Now I am testing CDN 4 with other fragrances and hopefully it will work great as well!! I got CDN 5 &6 but it doesn't seems work well with them!

I had success with a Premier 755 and 6006 at 6% and 7% with Peppermint Eucalyptus from CS.  My batch of 6006 was from August 2020.  It threw amazingly well for me.  Give the 745 a shot... you have nothing to lose.

Yes I am ordering different size of wick series 700 to have them home and see actually which one could be a better pick for this jar. I did a 7% today with Eucaliptus & clean cotton from Aztec, let's see!! Thank you I will try your combination as welL!

The same 1oz to 1lb rule as most people do. It’s not mathematically correct as a fragrance load percentage, but it’s ‘the norm’ for candle making.

If you’re not getting at least a middle of the road hot throw from 6006 and you’ve added the fragrance at 190 or above and stirred for 2 minutes then I’d try a new thermometer, and if that doesn’t work then you probably have some bad wax. I could put any wick in a 6006 candle and at least smell it, doesn’t mean it is the right size for the container but at least I know the candle is made right. It’s not a common thing to have a batch of 6006 that has no hot throw so I would check everything else you’re doing first before coming to a conclusion.

You are right! I wanted to buy an electric one to be ore specific.I will try to mix the fragrance higher than 190 and see. I made 2 testing candle with the CS formula but it didn't feel the jar, so If I can smell it this way I will try to use that formula for the numbers that I got before.

    Thank you!

If you learned something it is not a waste. You invested in your knowledge of this craft. Chandling is NOT and easy thing to master. Every single tiny change is essentially a brand new candle.

You are right, i am just getting so frustrated :(

I just multiply the wax by the % fo load I want.

example: 16 oz of wax with 6% FO would be 16x0.06=0.96, which I round up to 1, as in 1 oz per lb of wax.

Also I just have 700 series (745), Paper cord 20-4 1/2 " & and the one I got from amazon that I don't have any idea what it is...

that's what Kevin from Candle science said in the video. I am about to make a candle in my jar ( a full one) and see if that will match my jar and everything.  If that works... basically I just wasted money & time for no reason. O.o

The same as bfroberts, it is easy to use and wick but the hot throw isn't as good as 6006. I still like it, though. Everyone has different experiences so you might get along with it better, you can always buy small amounts to test from The Flaming Candle.

I just thought about soemthing, I am doing the Formula to get my FO, from a girl that I found on Youtube (memory box) which she got it similar to Jeff stanley, what if I am doing the formula wrong? How are you guys doing the formula? can you share please? @bfroberts @ErronB @TallTayl?

I have never seen anyone suggest cdn, and am not sure why.  There must be a reason... candle cocoon has CDN in several sizes along with sixteen seventeen.com

I should give them a try as well. I wrote to Aztec support and told them what is going, because it is crazy than in almost 20 candles I havent had any good and strong HT, so I asked them what should I do and why the wax is not working properly.

  21. 8 hours ago, ambar said:

Yes! They don’t grow any carbon head or anything, they trim themselves too small almost? I don’t have any CDN wicks. Is there anything comparable to that? I might just give up on this wax altogether.

I am right there with you. I am not sure what else I can do. It seems impossible find the wick for this wax ( ECO )and I don't know if this wax just doesnt work for me either :( Which other wax do you guys suggest ?? @bfroberts @TallTayl @ErronB

CS has very good oils. At 6-7%, they all throw for me, although some will be stronger.  It’s just the nature of the beast.

Using EOs can be very tricky for a variety of reasons, not to mention they aren’t very cost effective. You’ll generally have much better results using FOs. The BBW candles are using FOs that have some EO in them. They aren’t using straight EO.  It’s all just marketing.

SO the Bittercreek owner cancelled my order on EBAY cause " out of stock or damaged product" now what?? T_T

I guess I have to find the right FO! I got the package od sample ECO you told me, but where can I buy them afterwards? I haven't seen them in any company website.. this will be a problem you think?
