  1. Ohhhh, I thought you were using 6046 then added 464 to it. Would be nice if they ever listed the percent of paraffin in the 6046. This stuff seems like it was mixed with 4627 but not a lot. Its got that vaseline like texture on the surface but is still a lot harder wax than just 4627. I can actually break off sections of it. Gonna blend it a bit and experiment, but so far as is I like it a lot.

  2. Ya me and my wife noticed the HT difference after burning one that had a 2 week cure. What change did adding the 464 do? I have some 444 here but haven't blended them yet. I had already switched over to htp 105 for our 10oz tumbler. It still mushroomed but not as bad.

I just poured my first 2 candles with the 6046; I used the 6 oz and 12 oz calypso jars from Glass Now and so far I love this wax!!!  I used a CD4 in the small jar and a CD 8 in the 12 oz and they are burning beautifully on my first 2 test burns.  I'm definitely going to try the suggestion of adding the FO at around 170 to see if that boosts the ht; the ht is great now (I added the FO at 185) but I'll give it a whirl.

You have any good results with your candles?

  4. I tried out 10 and 25% of palm container with it and I don't like the look it gave it. Dried weird with little dots of texture in the wax and took the silky look away. I also read that this is different than 6570 and that 6570 was coco/veg and 6046 is coco/paraffin. Don't know if it is correct since I have never used 6570 but I did read that info on 2 different forums.

  5. I have given it a 3 day cure and it really throws off the scent good especially on the second burn. Pours great at 170ish but will still pull away from the jar, so pouring around 120-130 right at melt point fixes it. I have been trying out some supposedly concentrated fo of orange chili and I can smell it through my whole house. Glad to hear someone else is having good results.

Generally I’d start at 1% and test from there.

You may have some luck adding container palm wax versus stearic. There’s an entire specialized wick for stearic as it’s a PITA to burn. 10% palm wax improved a few of my blends.

Depending on your soy you could end up with cracking. Testing is fun though.

Have you ever blended palm with coconut wax? If so, what was your result?

  7. Ok Im guessing an 8oz candle in a 12 x 24 isnt optimal for testing, so I finally through frustration put it in our bedroom and closed the door for 20 min. Came back and the smell was off the wall with this 6046 blend and 6% fo. I have tried cd, htp and lx wicks because thats all I have at the moment. The cd seems to run hot and get big after a while so I have to keep trimming, but it did give a perfect mp, the htp wasnt so bad, could have gone down a size but I dont have any smaller ones, and the lx seemed to have worked the best. So far not really any mushrooming on either wick, but the lx if you really looked close might have had a little starting to form after an hour, but it was tiny. Only soot so far was from the cd.  I used an 8oz straight sided jar with cd6, htp73, and lx14 with CS Banana nut bread. Gonna make one with bamboo scent to test since the pillar candles we have with that scent are amazing with only 3% fo.

  8. Since I am waiting for these to cure I thought I would try out different pour temps, different temps for adding fo in this wax, and also adding 30% 444 soy just to see the changes. So far I am finding if you add fo between 160-170 the cold throw  is soooo  much better,  but blending this wax with soy, and it seems any wax I blend with soy gets bad jar adhesion. WTF!  My house got down to about 65 last night and the only candle with wet spots is the one I added Soy too. I am loving this wax so far by itself. I don't think I have poured a better looking candle, even the colors look good. I have only tried the CD wick so far and it seems to burn great, with a nice melt pool.  Hoping it gets good HT after cure. What is it you guys are not liking about this wax, and which wick do you suggest over the CD?

  9. Cd 10 seems to be perfect for the 3" dia status jar with no mushroom.  3hrs and melt pool is just hitting the sides. This was my second 3hr burn.  I poured 2 more in 8oz straight side jar, and I am noticing there is hardly any cold throw with 6% cinnamon chai, but I did try to pour a votive but way too soft.  I thought it would be strong considering this is probably igi 4627 blended with coconut since I have to scoop it out of a bag with ice cream scoop. I poured the remainder of my wax in a votive mold, but it was too soft. However, when I pulled it out of the votive mold it had very good cold throw coming off sides, but not top. Gonna hold these 2 for 2 weeks and see if cure helps.

  10. Well I just lit my first candle, but only did a 48hr cure so scent is low, but so far its burning really good. I have it in a 12oz status jar with a cd10. Jar adhesion is great. I even had a cold night last night and usually I get some kind of shrinkage, but nothing so far. It is a beautiful wax.

Well, I will share my experience with both waxes. You may get other information too.

I love the fact that soy (464) is made from soy beans, I love the scent throw of 464., but hate the frosting. I love the quickness of melt to pour of 6006, the lack of frosting, but I hate the wet spots. That's it in a nutshell.

I use both waxes as my 2 primary waxes in my business.

I do love increasing the % of soy in 6006 to 50% to boost the fragrance throw a bit, but maintain the lack of frosting. You will get differing explanations as to what the %s are in 6006, but it doesn't really matter if you find a blend you like. When I blend, I use 35 oz 6006 and 15 oz 464.

    Happy candlemaking :)

No wax is perfect or flawless. You just decide what you can live with and go for it.

Im confused. Everyone on here complains how Soy doesn't have very good HT compared to Paraffin. But then I read that you are adding soy to your already 70% paraffin mix of 6006 to increase fragrance boost. Shouldn't it be the other way around by adding Paraffin to you Soy? Or is this how it used to be in 2015 before mixes were changed?

  12. I read a lot on here about slowing down the cooling process for better jar adhesion. I have yet to see anyone post on using these soda coolers. I am going to pick some up if they work, because they would be a hell of a lot easier to use than wrapping with a paper towel or cloth.  If anyone has used these I would love to here the results. And these fit perfectly to an 8oz straight sided jar.

Pariffin Wax users, which brand do you prefer?

Try the igi 4627 you will love it. I use it by itself and also mix it with 444 to smooth it out and adds a little to HT. I make both soy and paraffin candles to cover both preferences. The only thing I don't like about the 4627 is that by itself in clear jars it looks like a Jolly Roger candy in color because it is sooo translucent. Colors are crazy in it though.  Add a little soy to it and you got your own blended 6006 that is more opaque. It is kinda messy, so use rubber gloves when scooping out. Cut the top of the bag down to wax level and leave it in the box, or cut bag all the way down all 4 sides and put it into a 5 gal plastic bucket that has a lid. I use a heavy duty spatula type ice cream scoop kinda what you see them using at Cold Stone, but gonna try one of those cake making straight spatulas that they use to spread frosting, because I heard they work really good. To me when I light it up, its real subtle in FO HT, (probably because of candle nose), until I walk outside and come back in, then BAM!!!! hits you right in the face with how strong the scent throw is with this wax. Good luck, looking forward to your results
