  1. It is specific to each state, you need to check with yours. Here, if we are a DBA, we can not use any variation of Co in our business name. Not Company, Co., Inc.,.....nothing. We must legally be a corporation of some sort to have it included in our biz name.
  2. I agree that the 2/0 is a good wick, and I've never had spill over, I also have never been thrilled with it cuz your burnt wick ends up getting longer and you have this tall flame and you need to trim and relight. I'm now using CD-4 (primed and spooled) and I love it. Self trimming, perfect burn. Don't have to touch it.
  3. Just buy another knucklebuster and plate. $20 and you're all set, especially if the circumstance ever repeats itself. If not, you always have a spare. I'd much rather buy another than run the risk of transposing numbers.
  4. Huh? Um, you're supposed to burn all three wicks at the same time. There are dozens and dozens of us here who have cumulatively made probably thousands of these made from all sorts of waxes with all types of wicks, very successfully.
  5. Most tins are just that. Although SS ones may look pretty sharp, they'd be mighty pricey as well. No thanks.
  6. MM, lets not start this whole trademark/copyright conversations again. Fact is, if no one has registered their business name with the USPTO, it is NOT in violation of anything for more than one business to have the same name, especially if they are in different states. There are probably hundreds and hundreds of different companies that have the same biz name as someone else across the country. Even companies that are in the same type of business. (The Chimney Sweep is an easy one.....Google it and you'll find them, all over the place). A DBA doesn't mean squat, except within your own state. It offers no protection outside of your state borders. In CA many years ago, you were only protected within your own county. There could be a XXX Co. in Northern CA and one in SoCal as well, that may have changed now. Anyone can claim TM, but unless you're willing to follow through with a ® it really doesn't mean a whole lot.
  7. Nicely put Stella and Sliver. It is absolutely infringement. The sports logo's in their entirety ARE protected. Not only the pro's, but college as well. You can't put their logo on anything, then sell it. Not without permission that is. And Stella is dead on about Disney. I knew a woman who's son died prior to birth due to serious birth defects, and they sought permission from Disney to use Pooh on the baby's headstone. Denied.
  8. K...I'll be the one to ask Where are you getting your photos for your labels....are you or your mom taking them?
  9. By drop-shipping, she'll never handle the candles. Orders will go straight to you, you package and ship to the customer, probably with a return label showing her address/co., not yours. Not uncommon.
  10. Tom, welcome back!! Nice to see that you've stuck with this.....good luck!! :highfive:
  11. I know a lot of people here use/sell these, if I remember right there was even a co-op on them at one point? Provo Craft Warmers
  12. If kept clean and packaged as from the manufacturer, no need to sterilize.
  13. Very true. But when Fed-Ex screws up, and delivers the package W/O collecting the brokerage fee......then tries to collect it from the recipient after the fact.......and the recipient DOESN'T pay......it becomes the responsibility of the shipper. $60 later, ask me how I know.
  14. Boy, I have to agree with the above. You say you've been doing this for a year, yet can't seem to figure out the FO load you're using in any given formulation? Your original post says that you thought you were putting 12oz in your jar, which clearly indicates you aren't weighing, and when you realize you're only using 8oz with 1oz. FO (um....and that's a 12½% load in case you needed to know) you question if that's too much? You've unwittingly spilled the beans that you really don't know what you're doing and are very far from producing a quality (let alone safe) product. You should not be selling. I'm sure this thread will do nothing but make you mad and you'll more than likely continue to do just as you have, but in case you're truly interested in learning, continue to read and research on this board, be willing to accept advice and criticism, accept answers to the questions you ask, and you can learn a ton here and will find experienced chandlers more than willing to help.
  15. Unless you have the exact %'s of each formulation, which i doubt you do, then you can't.
  16. Yes, PLEASE use USPS, not UPS or Fed-Ex, or you'll have to pay brokerage fees which are huge.
  17. I wouldn't waste my time. If it's legit, they obviously aren't pleased with your product "as is" so why don't they find someone who has what they want? I find it suspect.....
  18. My advice is to save your money.....for now. If you just ordered your first batch of supplies today, you have a very long way to go before you will/should be selling. When you have made a ton of candles, thoroughly test burned them, and are confident you have a safe and quality product, then go out and get your insurance. Insurance for this biz isn't cheap, why pay for what you don't need at the time. JMO.
  19. Juggy, regardless of what wax, jars, wicks, etc. you are using, it is quite normal to have a deeper melt pool near the bottom, especially if you depth has become roughly equal to (or greater than) the diameter of your container. You said it already, it's just because of more restricted air flow which equals more heat trapped inside. As long as you wick properly and safely, and you get a good burn at the top, the melt pool you describe is fine.
  20. California's a big state. North (as in North of SF?) So-Cal? Central? There's chandlers here from all points.
  21. No, votives won't fit in 3", you need 4". As for the smell, PVC shrink often stinks when it's in the roll (basically all in bulk). Once you take the tiny amount out and use it on your tarts, there's no smell at all. HTH.
  22. Doubt it. 3" tube is pretty hard to find. I had to ask PackCo to start carrying it a few years ago because no one else had it.
  23. Jeez guys....all this cutting and wrapping of film is a PITA. Labor intensive. Not worth it for a silly tart. You have more time wrapped up in packaging than the damn thing is worth. 3" shrink tube is perfect. Much less shrinking and extra stuff than 4". Get yourself a heat sealer with a round element, slip a bunch of tarts in a length of tube, seal in between them (the round element burns through so there's no cutting needed, and it's a nice trim seam that shrinks up smooth) and heat shrink. Only takes a few seconds. You can get the tubing at PackCo Inc. Like 1500' for $18 or so.
  24. I've been using glossy laser labels for a few years. I have a few things that have been hanging around for a while, no yellowing at all.
