  1. I also use the clear plastic dixie cups from Dollar General. 1.00 for 72 of them and just toss when finished!! Nice and easy!!
  2. I was thinkin about trying my hand out on a few bakery molds and I was wondering how you make the frosting/icing. I see you can purchase it at a rather hefty price. Do you just let the wax cool more before drizzling on??
  3. It is a struggle with the woodstove, I have the same problem, it's -7 right now with the wind chill. I have an office and candle making room in my basement, takes forever and costly to heat the room. The only problem I run into is that candles can dry too quickly. I use the heat gun to warm up my molds and it's not really an issue with the tarts. But since it's so cold in NY and drafty any votives or pillars I pour upstairs in the kitchen to make my life a lot easier! I'm going to stick with the 44-24-18's myself, I'm going to use them in my 4oz jars too, the preformance was GREAT!! Stay warm!
  4. After the LX12 I switched to a 44-24-18 and thats what worked, there was mushrooming, but not too terrible, scent throw was great. I also used one of these in a 4 oz. mason jar I poured with the cbl129 and it was AWESOME! Melt pool great, great size flame, great throw. Let me know which wick you end up with, I'm sure there is something better! LOL!
  5. I have been testing this wax now for 3 weeks and I'm in LOVE! I mainly make tarts and this wax kicks butt! The cold and hot throw are amazing. Only downfall was the "brains". Heat gun takes care of it, but after it's melted in the tartburner and hardened, the brains come back. So I have a ton of votive/pillar wax, I mixed 1 oz. of it into the CBL129 and it completely solved the "brain" problem. The only other problem I ran into was I decided to try the XL12 wicks for the votive portion with just the straight 129 and then with the 1 oz of vot. wax mixed in. The burn was OK, not that impressed and there was NO scent throw at all. So I switched back to my old wicks and all better! I'm so sorry I didn't test this wax soooo much sooner!!
  6. Thank you Candle Man!! Thats a nice simple solution!!
  7. Oh thank you! Thats what I was thinking but just wanted to double check!
  8. I just got my first 50 lb. box of slabs. I am used to granular form! Lucky for me it's smashed to a million pieces! BUT the bottom of the box is soaked on one side I assume from the snow, etc. seems like it started from the outside. I checked the other posts for water in wax and looked in the couple pieces in the idented side, I don't see any water or anything on the wax, but 98% of the pieces are about fist size. I took it all out of the box and put in a tote, are there any further precautions I should be taking??? Thanks!!
  9. I've been testing the CBL129 for small containers from Candlewic and it's dong great so far! Nice scent throw!
  10. Thank you!! I should have thought to look there first!!
  11. Since I'm switching to a diff. wax could you give me some wick suggestions?? I'm going with CBL 141 and will need diff. wicks for the votives, tealights and 3 inch pillars. And I'm using CBL 129 for containers so I need new wicks for 4 oz and 8 oz jars. I've read the mixed reviews for LX wicks. The wicks I currently use don't work well with these 2 waxes. I appreciate any help!!!
  12. Yup 57.00 for 3 tarts!! I only sold rare/retired Yankee Candles as they have different scents in England than they do here and I have a friend who lives there and I had a resource for retired stuff, and I'll tell ya, people go nuts over that stuff. Sold them for 5 years. The last jar I sold in July was a NY state Niagra Falls 22 oz. jar and it went for 125.00! I have sold 3 unwrapped YC votives for 34.00! Had to get out of it though, when I started there was only 4 of us sellers and that turned into hundreds and high priced stuff like that causes a lot of people to want to do insurance scams, paypal scams, etc!!!
  13. I belong to a couple candle burning fanatic groups and 99% of the ladies who bought candles with the wood wicks did not like them. They didn't like the crackling noise and were just down right scared they would start a fire and they complained of the smoke also.
  14. Some chips work great!!! I love the navy and bright green for example, but the cranberry I cut in half and it works great. I only use them for colors I cannot achieve with liquid. I did use color blocks in the beginning too, I just found I really prefer the liquid more than anything and try and use it whenever possible. I have a couple of friends that only sell "dye free" candles there is actually quite a market for them as some people don't like the bowls of their tart burners getting stained. Go figure!!!
  15. I did that with a bottle of brown dye a few weeks ago! I use GOO GONE too, works great to get the dye off everything, including yourself!!
  16. It's a shame with the fee's and all! Up until a couple years ago eBay was soooo much fun!! I met lots of great people I still chat with so that made it worth all the work!! Most of my eBay customers went to my website after the 1st time they won auctions anyways!! LOL!
  17. I use NG's Gingerbread and I LOVE IT! It's on my 5 top best sellers list!
  18. Carol, that sounds yummy!! I haven't tried that scent yet!!
  19. I closed my eBay store in December. Even though it was doing well, the fee's were outrageous, and people wanted stuff for nothing! My website does better anyways!! LOL
  20. I used to sell Yankee Candles and that is one of the biggest scents they have for Xmas. It was generally only avail. in England for a long time and they finally started selling it here in the US 2 years ago at Christmas time. I've sold 3 tarts of this before for 57.00 on ebay! I would keep it the same name. I relate this scent with the incense used in churches, it the same thing. So if you remame I'd use some kind of incense description.
  21. I have mainly switched to liquid dye, I do use some chips for colors I can't achieve with the liquid. I have problems with certain colors, like Burghandy, doesn't matter what supplier I use there is always speckling on bottom of tarts, or Cranberry, doesn't dissolve, all the way, no matter how much stirring and adding in at 180 or more. SO to solve this problem I've starting cutting the top corner of the diamond off and that seems to be helping with the speckling or dissolving issues, or I cut in half which can help too!
  22. I currently use JS Vot and I'm going to switch to CBL129 and CBL141, I like the blends, but I don't care for soy at all. Nothing wrong with it, just a personal preference, I'm just a parrafin type of gal! I haven't experimented with any other waxes except S&P. I would love the lower shipping or heck syracuse is only a couple hours away from me!!! Pass it if I'm heading to Turning Stone!!! LOL!
  23. Donita I just looked at your site and your candles are BEAUTIFUL!! You have a great talent!!!
  24. I did try the 141 as a pillar, I used the sample to pour 1 votive, 4 tarts and a 2 inch pillar. I wasn't thrilled how the pillar or votive burned at all! The melt pool was too large and they were both messy, melting down the sides. Could be my wicks, I use CB9 3" wicks for votives and 36-24 zinc for pillars. But I was using JS Vot and those wicks work well with that wax. So maybe I'll have to switch wicks. I was thinking of just mixing for the tarts, using the 129 for containers and 141 for pillars, votives & tealights. Thank you for all the advise!!! I really appreciate it!!! Buying the JS Vot was the easy way for me but as the business grows I really want to provide a better quality/longer throwing tart!!!
