  1. just my crappy 2 cents.

Pick 3 or so things to work on for awhile.. get them down pat.. don't overwhelm yourself with trying out everything all at once. Don't stress of packaging and labelling yet... work on your product. The you can work on the look and possible theme you might like and go from there.. there are SOOO many products and SOOO many scents, its so easy to get carried away and do a lot of wasteful spending. After you get 3 or so GREAT things.. you can start adding to you a line a bit at a time... and prefecting the little things here and there... its so much fun, but its still a lot of work.

  2. Yeah, I noticed that about 5 suppliers carry a raspberry sorbet, but only one of them (willowwoods) advertises it as a Yank dupe. I just want it to burn for myself, so it's kind of a long-term search...I guess I could order some samples from the ones who don't advertise it as a dupe and see if any of them are close!

    Thanks, soapermom!

check out the natures garden one.. I havent smelled the yankee version, so I have no clue how similar it is, but it does smell great!
  3. I am working on these now.... I made a mold.. and almost have what I what hardness wise...I am doing menthol /eucalyptus ones.. as well as some aroma therapy ones....that just smells nice..

I am not trying to duplicate... as their formula has a chemical reaction attached.. if you touch it while activated.. its HOt... I am aiming for something more along the lines of those cheesy bath cubes we got when we were kids...

  4. food color stains... when I had a real life job.. I was a chef:) , the cake colors also have other ingrediants like vegetable gum, sorbitol PG methylcellulose.. its best to use cosmetic colorants..gel tones, micas,I use basic 12 lab color dyes..

  5. Haven't personally tried them myself but you would need the SAP for them...

Bear Tallow Sap Value: NAOH SAP Value 0.139

    KOH SAP Value 0.1946

    Dunno on the other 2

ETA: Have you ever rendered tallow? Not to discourage you, but those may REAK when you do them. I don't know as I haven't ever rendered them, just rendered beef tallow and that was enough. I'll buy it first already rendered!

beef is nothing... bear stinks to high heaven!!
  6. in my line.. they arent the same..... I know some people use the term interchangeably.

my whipped shea is just shea, light oil and cornstarch.... its great for very very dry skin.. not something i would want as a daily all over moisturizer...

my body butter, is shea+ other butters(cocoa mango etc...) plus water e wax etc... which is a very thick cream or lotion... thicker than a normal body lotion... but not so greasy and great all over daily moisturizer.

  7. I have noticed of course a lot use the melt..freeze, whip method, and some whip over an ice bath etc...

does anyone make this with softened butters? I ask because I never melt.... I use soft butters, and whip at the consistancy of say..shortening.. it gets fluffy and nice and i am happy with it. Are their any extra benefits to melting? increased volume or anything? I havent tried it as I heard alot of people complaining of things going wrong.. like getting it too hot, shea going grainy etc..and I am not one who usually tries to fix what isn't broke.. but i was just curious if i was missing out on any thing KEY to a better product?

  8. Does Baby Powder usually turn dark in CP? I made some a week or so ago, and it was a pretty yellow with curls of blue and pink from other batches. I thought this turned out nice..well, now it is a dark color, not really brown though.
I had some discoloration with one of them...can't remember which one.. I changed.. now using "baby's room" and its fine.
