  1. I like the look of the 4" diameter palm pillars, and think I might want to try to make some. Grouped in threes, they have a nice presence in a room. My molds are coming in the mail any day now! Are they hard to wick? Also, I was thinking about pillar holders. Where would you find nice pillar holders for that size at a good price...?
  2. Was sniffin a bunch of samplers from GC candles, and Ginger Lime really stood out to me. mmmmm.. I wanna make it! Does anyone know where I could get a great Ginger Lime?
  3. Does someone have that handy dandy chart they sent with the premier 700 sampler kits? I can't find mine for the life of me. I'm itching to try these guys with my S&P crystal container wax in a 16oz bulb jar from the jar store. I've been double wicking with RRDs, but was wondering if I could get a more stable flame with these 700s. Thought I'd try... Wickit resent me their chart via email, but in a powerpoint format, which this old beast of a computer can't open... Can someone please give me a number to start with in my testing???? Thanks for your help!!!
  4. I've been using S&P's container wax blend. Has great hot and cold throw with most of the fragrances, better than the soys I tested. I've been wicking with RRDs, but would be curious to try something else to see if I could get a more stable flame. It seems to hold about 7% FO, sometimes more, depending on the oil. I'm on the west coast, and they have a warehouse close by, so it's easy for me to get a hold of, cheaper shipping. They're out of NY. I've always gotten quick replies from them.
  5. Is the crystal container wax from candles and supplies seriously one pour? No relief holes? No air pocket caverns? Says here: http://www.candlesandsupplies.com/WaxComparison.pdf Anyone who uses it, how do you like it? I'm using S&P's right now, but a one pour sounds like a dream!
  6. Have you found noticable results with the vybar 343? I just ordered some, hoping it will help prevent pooling on the bottom that I've gotten with a few of my candles. Is that from FO leaking out, or could it possibly be from when I poke relief holes, accidentally poking to the bottom and the cooler wax leaking out and not crystallizing like the rest? Not to hijack this thread... I've been using a palm blend in a 3 1/2 inch container with two RRD29s or 34s. Both do fine, depending on the oil. I wish there was something in between. I've heard here that the wax gets harder to burn as it ages, so that makes me want to lean more toward the 34 for times sake... The 29 burns nicely in most my candles a couple of weeks old, (sometimes it gets a little weak as it burns down into the jar - so on those I want to use the 34) but I'm wondering how it will burn six to nine months from now... Should I wick up to compensate? I too, don't want my candles to burn down too quickly. I guess I haven't offered any answers, only more questions.. sorry.
  7. Well there you go! Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Holly!
  8. Are the RRD wicks only available pretabbed? Does anyone know where I could find them spooled or in longer lengths than 6"? I hope this isn't a dumb question.. looked around at several suppliers, but can't find them. Thanks for your help!
  9. Great question! I've been looking around too. I signed up recently for Godaddy, and building my site with their website tonight was easy, so was their quick shopping cart. Got it up and running fairly quickly, I think, considering I had no clue what I was doing. Learned as I went. The one thing I don't like about their shopping cart is that it doesn't let the buyer choose to opt out of shipping if they want to pick up their order. You have to charge shipping to everyone or not at all... But other than that, so far I"m pleased with the service. Oh, and I wish my shopping cart were more integrated with the rest of my sight. There's a few thing about the template I picked that I wish I could tweak, but overall it had some fun features that other website builders didn't have... I have yet to find the perfect solution. Anybody try Citymax?
  10. Ok, what do you mean by slip tins? Could someone please post a pic? Do they have clear lids??? The lids slip off, is that what you mean?
  11. I got one from QVC, and stared at it for a while, but then decided to send it back. I couldn't get past the heating element being right there in contact with the wax, and didn't want to risk burning or discoloring that amount of wax at one time. Completely covering the heating element with melted wax would just cover up the smell of the burning wax buried below, IMO. I wasn't sure how hot those heating elements would get, and didn't test it. Maybe I should of. When I read the raving reviews of how it's working for everyone, I do have a tinge of regret. I chickened out. If you did decide to get one, I wouldn't put my FO or color in the large turk n surf. I would dispense it into separate pour pots, and add color and FO in there. I guess it depends on the batch size you plan on doing. I wouldn't want to thoroughly clean that large of a pot and the coils from Dye and FOs everytime I needed to make a change. And would want the freedom to dump in more wax as the levels get lower without having to premeasure everything. That's just my two cents from a fairly new chandler. I decided on a presto pot and a turkey roaster. Both have been working well. I'm thinking the presto pot's heating levels are easier to control, but the turkey roaster allows for a larger amount of wax at one time. My wax temp accidentally got up to over 215 with the dial set to 150, so I have to keep my eyes on it. Anyway, I hope you're happy with whatever you end up choosing! HTH
  12. I wonder if you're pouring too cool? If I were to try layers with my palm wax, I would start my first layer at 180, next at 185, next at 190, letting it set up some between layers.... But I've never done it. Have been wanting to try... I think Palm wax needs to be poured hot to get the look. I wonder if that level of heat would melt the prior layers.. I dunno!
  13. Have you thought of double wicking? You could use smaller wicks which would lessen the soot... just a thought
  14. Thanks for the input and good ideas! Now to go shoppin! I think I'll be broke before I ever sell my first candle! :rolleyes2
  15. Oh... ok. Thanks. Hey, not knowing you, I just have to say that your pic and posts keep reminding me of the character Jeff Goldblum played in Jurassic Park. The scientist guy. Anyway. I hope you don't mind mentioning that... He was cool! lol
  16. See, this is good. I've been trying to gather the general principles of candle making science. You're saying that FO will generally weaken the flame...? Too much FO would be a cause of the wick drowning out? Just trying to put all this together... Thanks for the pics!
  17. Hi Breanna, earlier you mentioned the tin cases from BCS. Do you personally use them? They look like a great idea! I've been looking for something like that to show off my fragrances and colors, and considered buying tins separately, but couldn't find an attractive way to carry them around... How many oz does each tin hold, and do you find the lids come off easily for the samplers? Any other ideas that are similar? Thanks!
  18. Hello, I've poured at 180-185, and that worked for me. Just poke relief holes to prevent those air pockets. I love the look of the wax, but feel like I have to babysit it while it cures. HTH :smiley2:
  19. I just saw your website and your candles are absolutely fabulous! God has blessed you with amazing talent. You've inspired me to try my first pillar! lol
  20. Donita, I just saw your website, and your candles are absolutely fabulous. God has blessed you with such amazing talent! And you've inspired me to try my first pillar! lol...
  21. This will be my first votive experience... I'm a little nervous! I have new molds here, and some pillar palm wax. Was wondering if I should spray those little guys with Pam, or will the palm wax slide out on its own? I don't want to do anything to hinder the crystallization. What do you think?
  22. The guy at Calwax told me to pour cool. I pour at about 130, when its like thick gravy, and that seemed to help. I use the CB-3 blend. HTH
  23. Hello from one newbie to another. I've been working with the CB-3. I like the throw, but you'll see that a couple of us are having trouble wicking it. I've tried, let's see... five waxes so far...but I'm narrowing it down. It's the fragrance oils that add up! WAY too many to choose from.:rolleyes2 It's addicting! Welcome to the board!
  24. I have yet to be able to wick the CB3 to my satisfaction, and too would love some advice on a wick to try next... Sure smells good though.
