  1. Thank you. Unfortunately, I am only making candles at this time, so I do not qualify for that membership and insurance.
  2. Thank you! I made some testers up with cd 16s and 415 wax, I'm still waiting for them to cure in order to be able to test them. I was just afraid that the wick might be too big. I hope you don't mind me asking, how much do you sell these for?
  3. Has anyone used this jar? It has a 3" diameter and is 3.5" tall. What wick sizes have you used in it?
  4. Thanks for the replies. Who do you have your insurance through, and how much is it annually?
  5. For those of you who sell to the public, via craft fairs, home parties, farmer's markets, etc, do you carry insurance, in case something goes wrong with the candles that you sell?
  6. Thanks for the advice! I have been trying to read everything. Lol I have so many pages bookmarked that contain little jewels of info.
  7. That's awesome! Thanks Hensley! At least I wasn't the only one wondering. I have a hard time searching for things on this site, because it always says that "one or all of your keywords are below 4 characters." This is so frustrating! How can 415, 444, 464, etc. users find posts related to their wax easily? I've been having to go through Google, and even then, I doubt I'm getting all of the results that I should be getting.
  8. Thanks! I've been testing 415 in 8 oz tin containers. I honestly have been trying to wick incorrectly this whole time. Now, back to the drawing board. I'm thinking of starting with CD 12 and CD 14 and going from there. Hopefully this time, I will have some luck! ☺️
  9. Ooooooook. Thank you for the clarification. I'm glad I asked! For a 3" diameter candle, how much wax hang up should I have after the first 3 hour burn? I was referring to candles that I have purchased. More specifically, Calvin Klein and Henri Bendel. Also, I lit a Yankee (or yankme as they are referred to on here lol) today with a 3.5" diameter and I had a full melt pool in about 45 minutes. That seems extremely fast!
  10. I've read that if I have a 3" diameter candle, then it should take 3 hrs for the melt pool to reach the sides of the container. Is this correct? So, if I have a 5" diameter candle, it should take 5 hrs? Or, should every candle, no matter the size of the diameter, take 3 hrs to reach the sides? All of my high end candles do not take that long to reach the sides. Please help, I am going crazy trying to wick!
  11. Chuck and Hensly Thanks for the input. I started out with 464 because I watched candle science's video on "how to make a soy candle" and that is what they recommended. I wasn't getting a great hot throw from it so I tried 415. I already like the 415 better than the 464, but before I purchase the 444 I just wanted some opinions on it. I have tried some paraffin wax but I do prefer soy over it.
  12. Is the scent throw for 415 and 444 comparable? How about wick sizes?

    Portion cups

    Awesome! Thanks for the recommendations.
  14. Great advice. I'll remember that. Thanks!
  15. Thanks. Good to know. I'm starting with 8 oz tins, and I have Eco, hemp, and CD wicks. Once I have those mastered I like the look of candle bowls, but they will require double or triple wicking.
  16. Thank you so much! Lol ok, so no Crisco. I spoke with a candle maker near me and she adds Crisco to her wax, that's why I thought I would ask. I know I need to test, test, test, and then test some more. I just wanted to know what wax would be a good place to start. I have soy waxes near me. GB and Ecosoya.

Favorite wax for portion cups? Thanks!
  18. Do you prefer 415, 444, or 464? Have you ever added Crisco to any of these? Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated as I am a newbie. Thanks.
  19. Hello! I am new to candle making and this forum has been awesome! I know that different people prefer different waxes and what works for one might not work for another, so I might get varying viewpoints. I have noticed that 415 and 444 have higher melt points, and that 415 is all natural where 444 has additives. In your option, what wax has the better scent throw? Do you ever add crisco to either one? Is it possible to get smooth tops with 415 without using a heat gun and doing repours? Thanks!!
