What is a 1oz tester??? Does that mean you use 1oz of the FO and make a 12 oz candle to check the throw??????

I have the same thought process as you did when you started... I am just trying to focus on making a great candle right now. I have seen numerous videos on soap making and others as well that I really like but I am consumed right now with trying to make the best dog gone candle I can. And that is a challenge..... Hopefully the cost isn't prohibitive on the wholesale side...

Went to wally world yesterday and they were selling 16oz candles(better home) for under $6... WOW... Got to be huge bulk rates when purchasing. I was thinking of buying one to see how it does, but NO!!!! Probably should have just to see the quality. Just thought it was a crazy price!

So how do you make them in an X form?????

Where do the suppliers get the FO from? I have seen websites that advertise pure 100% uncut. Is that different than what I get from CS? Is that what CS and others do is cut the FO they buy in bulk to make more??

I searched and couldn't find anything that answered the question of can you soak a wick in FO before you put it in the container and pour your wax??? I know,, stupid newbie question!!

Making some paraffin tomorrow ... so should I them the same cure time of 7-10 days????

Well now... You guys do know what you are doing!!!!!! I just went back and lit the candle from Saturday and it is really filling the room with scent.... So I have learned a valuable lesson, soy takes some cure time.. I have a few others that I am going to wait at least until Saturday to lite, that will be 7 day. The cold throw is awesome now on those we made. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thanks so much for the cure time on the soy... going forward I am looking at 10 days I think. What about a paraffin candle cure time?????? THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME.....

Oh no... I am a teacher and my wife works with me at the same school but as a teacher you have to supplement your income unfortunately.. When I say we are passionate about candles and the process of making them I am telling you the God's honest truth. We have been candle lovers FOR YEARS and YEARS. We don't need to have money tomorrow from this... but sooner is better than later with regards to money, LOL. Would I like to be able to retire from my teaching job and work side-by-side with my wife making and selling candles, ABSOLUTELY and that is what we are shooting for. I am also retired military but our thing is we want to work together doing something we love, and that is candles.

And the answers so far on the other thread have been great BTW... the website has been really helpful so far and I really really really appreciate it!!!!

I am a newbie and my question is am I fooling myself to think that a homemade, hand poured candle can equal the quality of Yankee or Gold Canyon??? Can a small candle maker make the scent throws that the big time guys do??? I am just trying to find out honest answers and opinions... Thanks!!

I was just doing some research and I found this site that proposes adding FO to soy at 155 degrees and not 185... As a newbie I would think it would be better at a lower temp as to not burn off but most every place else reads to add FO at 185. I used 2 ECO 14 wicks.. We thought two would be better.. The jar is 3/14 in diameter . I am using a 12oz tumbler with an actual pour amount of about 9.5 oz or so... I purchased some paraffin as well from CS.. They seem really nice and have answered all my questions.
