I just started doing HP (Monday) because you can use it quicker, with CP you have to let it cure for 4 weeks or so, the hot process some people say you can use it immediately and I haven't found any problems using it right away. After Christmas I am probably going to switch to CP because you can do more with it, they say you can achieve more artistry with CP.

since I JUST started a few days ago......I found the cheapest stuff I could find (shortening and lard) to find out if I even liked making soap. I didn't want to invest a lot of money and find out I hated it! Good luck!

my soap doesn't have a soapy bite or zip to it.......did I do something wrong? Does it mean I'm not using enough lye? I check my recipes with like 3 or 4 of the calculators online before starting so I don't know what I'm not doing right?

Direct Heat Hot Process was what I thought I was doing anyway! LOL My pot had something else in mind....but my 2 little batches I tried in my crock pot turned out fine, but the second one didn't quite fit the mold and is really small now--3 inches wide by not quite 2 inches high.

thank you! I've switched to the crock pot now lol and since its a little one....I've done 2 small batches. They don't look quite right but I think its because I bought the CHEAPEST stuff I could find to try it out just to see if I like it. I can really see myself getting into it....but I'm kinda an obsessive type, Jump head first into something and work myself to death with it lol. But I love to stay busy and as long as the old saying goes...Practice makes perfect...I'm going to keep trying. My husband is even excited about trying it but he's been at work since I started trying. PS I'm still trying to air out my apt! I cant believe what happened with that pan!

I just signed up last night to the boards and spent 12 hours reading everything i could find on the internet about making soap. Spent 4 hours searching for Lye this afternoon and started about 9pm trying to make my 1st batch. I think my house is TOXIC now! I'm pretty sure that my pan was aluminum and it now has holes in it and i have fat and lye IN and ON my stove! I'm so depressed because I was so excited and failed.......I had NO clue that my pan wouldnt work
