@pinkt  what timing! I'm literally testing a cottonwood wick right now and just started burn 2- one thing that concerns me is that they seem tricky to trim.  The top edge becomes shredded and the individual fibers are separating.  You need some super sharp scissors to trim this neatly- my wick trimmer just kind of mangles it.  I sure hope this self trims going forward because it seems like it's going to hard to trim it properly myself.  On the plus side, the throw is great, the MP just where it should be at this point and the flame steady as can be..   for now ;)

I trim mine with wick trimmers. The type I use sits on top of the wax and trims to a perfect 1/8 every time.

mine never seem to self trim :( those get super hot in a hurry without trimming well before lighting. when they get hot the start to lean off-center pretty significantly in my tests.

You are using the wrong size if it's getting that hot.. go down a size and see how it does.. I have found that the CottonWood wicks don't work for every type of wax.. when they are the correct size they should pretty much self trim..

Thanks @Nickie but that link is for a different product. NW Elite 200 I only find from Filmore container. I've continued with testing and I like it. I know I'm new to candling, but it works well for me. I talked to Filmore and they said it was 100% soy. The msds says it's a Mixed Vegetable Glyceride. I haven't gotten it to work great in glass, but I'm doing tons for now. Tops are always smooth after every burn. I'll post some testing photos later, but would like to chat with anyone else who uses or tested it.

Dorothy, the ELITE 200 is a mix of soy and palm, it is not 100% soy.... I'm getting ready to try it   https://uscandlesupply.com/product/naturewax-elite-200-slab-60lb-case/

  4. struggle brother, Accu-blend no longer sells small quantities.. I spoke with the head guy there.. the person who dealt with selling to small businesses is no longer with them.. They only sell pallets and THEY NO LONGER MAKE APRICOT WAX... There were issues with this wax and so they decided to scrap it

  5. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Apricot 74!  I heat to 210 add scent, stir about 15 sec and pour.. I always get outstanding hot throw! Never have gotten caving or sinking, but if I do, I'll just fix it with my heat gun. I use fragrance oils from everywhere and have never had a bad result.. this wax is amazing!!

  6. I get the APRICOT  WAX  and COCONUT WAX from Accu-blend.. yes they are blends but mostly apricot and coconut. they do have a little soy in them but no paraffin. Thee apricot is APRICOT-74 and the coconut is COCONUT-83.   I add to them and they perform outstandingly.. I mix the 2 waxes together...  They are great on their own, but I have found that they are much easier to wick with the addition of palm, beeswax or soy modifier.

  7.  I use Accu Blends APRICOT WAX and I absolutely love it!!!!  I use their coconut wax as well and they are both easy to work with. If you do some research, you'll see that Apricot Wax is becoming much more popular now.. My customers love it too!

Sorry for my last post, it was cut off by my battery dying and I didn't realize it posted. I was on my tablet and must have touched submit before it turned off. Just disregard that little tangent lol, I guess the food allergies are why I'm sensitive to misleading labels, it is a big stress of mine.

Anyways, one of the companies I emailed last week wrote back and told me that I can find the organic wax at accu-blend.com. I'm trying to figure out what this wax is, it just says Accu-Veggie #44 Organic Container wax. Has anyone used or heard of it? They don't list what is in it but looking at the MSDS sheet it looks like it could be a parasoy blend? Am I reading this right? http://www.accu-blend.com/PDF%20Files/all_nat-organic_msds.pdf

    Thanks again for the help!

This wax is a blend of SOY/COCONUT/PALM

The coconut wax has a congeal point of 126 degrees.   I've asked for the product data sheet for the apricot multiple times, and it's not available.   That in and of itself is a little disconcerting.  Recommended max FO load is 8% on both.

The coconut arrived very, very soft with somewhat significant melting on a 102* day...so summer may be a challenge, even in non-desert areas.   The apricot was marginally better.   In a 75* home, neither ever felt quite solid.   They're both softer than J50 prior to reformulation by IGI, if anyone remembers that wax from back in the day.

Even at 7%, I've had issues with FO pooling.   Their suggestion is to add soy to it.  That impacts burn characteristics significantly.

....and as far as being clean burning, that's dependent upon your FO, jar size, wicking, colorant, etc.   Any candle may soot.  Period.  Almost equally important is how the consumer burns it.   If they don't perform proper burn hygiene, it's going to soot and not burn cleanly either.

I have both Accu-blend waxes: the COCONUT and the APRICOT.. I've been using the COCONUT  for 5 years and I don't have issues with pooling at all. 10% fragrance load, heated to 200, add fragrance and pour immediately.

Apricot wax is actually being used by a lot of high end candle makers in the market. As for marketing it, it actually is quite easy considering it burns 80% cleaner then soy. We have a marketing program that allows us to deal directly with customers in a pretty unique way.

I've seen some posts about 3 years old talking about Apricot wax but nothing lately. It is an amazing wax, just can't figure out how to pour it without it tunneling near the wick. I've poured at 200 degrees, 180, 160, 140, 130.... All created the same problem.

I've been testing the Accu-blend Apricot, and I love it, but going to be testing a bunch of different wicks for it. I heat to 200 add fragrance (10%) and pour. I've never had any pooling of fragrance. If you get tunneling near the wick, just hit with your heat gun and it will fix it.

  11. I just checked CandleSoylutions website looking for oils.. this is part of their post: a new but experienced vendor is preparing to take over the Enchanted Lites line of fragrances.. so CandleSoylutions will have complete stock again :) also, they bought all the remaining inventory from EL so they have a pretty good supply right now.. go have a look around :)A
