  1. new_tins.jpgmason.jpgbarrel22.jpg

I need wick help! I just bought these @ cierracandles.com, they are:

    8 oz 3.3"W and

    16 oz 3.9"W tins,

    9 oz mason 3" W,

    11 oz barrell jar 4 1/8" W (?).

I use Cal Wax CB3 Soy and haven't had much luck wicking tins ever.

Any ideas? (FYI-Cierra has free shipping on orders over $100 and up to 30 lbs, not incl. Wax).

  2. Well now it makes sense. I am new to candle making and was wondering about the fumes. Im am 35 and very healthy. But recently I've been getting tired alot and haven't been sleeping well. My nose is also starting t run. I'll bet money it's the fumes in my system. I am definately going to Home Depot tomorrow and getting a respirator!

  3. Is anybody having luck wicking tins? I have 8oz tins from BC and they look great. I tried (1) HPT-104 and then (1)105 with no luck. I then tried (2) HPT-83's and finally got a melt pool. But, I get zero scent throw with either Soy or J223. Does the tin stifle it?

    Anyone having great success?:(

  4. I read BC instructions for using EzSoy. They said to add FO at 120F.

However, I've read tons of posts about adding it at 170F then stirring like mad. Which is the best way?

While Im add it, can you assist me in some scent throw problems? I have great scent when Im making them but then no throw, hot or cold, after they cure for a week.

I have 8oz jj and use HTP-105 and CD-12 wicks. The 105 may be a bit big but it melts all the way down. I add .8oz of FO per jar (all BC's).

Finally, does dye affect scent in any way? Should I just bag using the dye or is it not that complicated?crazy.gif

  5. I got from the library:

Candlemaking for Fun and Profit - M. Espino

    The Candlemaker's Companion - B. Oppenheimer

I am new as well. The books were a great addition to the forum. The other writer is right, the forum is your best spot for up to date info on active candle makers. But I have had use out of hte books and they are really easy to refer and read. Worth getting from your library.
