  1. I'm at work so this will be short. I use this wax also. Heat to 175. add fo cool to 150. use tongs to test your wax. If you dip the tongs and the wax hardens right away your wax isn't ready. You have to work fairly fast also. And it takes practice. I ruined a few bears before I got them to look good. Email me if you want more tips and I'll be happy to help. Gotta get back to work now though.
  2. I alwaysget my order from Becky in a week or less. Her service is outstanding. However my order from Canwax in Canada takes a long time because it takes several steps to go thru customs coming into US so I bet that's the problem going into CA as well.
  3. I sent an email to Barnloft asking them what was in the 10% that wasn't listed as plant derived and this was their reply: "All we can tell you is that it is synthetic. At only 10%, using it at 1% will still make your wax base 99.9% natural. If you add fragrances that are not essential oils or dyes, there will be much more addition of synthetics to your formula than this additive will bring you. Please let me know if I can be of further help."
  4. I use tealight wicks from canwax.com 18-342-T with plastic tealights. Tried them on my cinnamon tealights and got a great scent throw. I know you're not supposed to but we test burned it for 7 hours straight and it still hadn't run out. I use ecosoya wax.
  5. I have a 16 oz widemouth snowflake apothecary jar from Candles and Supplies that I want to do in bayberry and cranberry. I use ecosoya CB135. Trying to double wick. Having a hard time getting full melt pool. I have 51 and 60 cottons, large and extra large hemp core wicks. I thought 51's should work but doesn't seem to get quite a full melt. Then the 60's seem big. Have lots of htp's aroiund but haven't had much success with those in any candles. Any suggestions? could it be because they're a darker color?
  6. When I do a craft show can I put candles in my car the night before. It's starting to get cold at night and I wondered if the cold will affect the candles in any way. It's easier to load up the night before, but I would wait if there's a posssible problem.
  7. If I buy a lotion base and add fo and bottle it does this count as hand made for craft shows that require everthing to be hand crafted. I may do my own body butter and lotion bars, but for lotion I prefer the base.
  8. On NGI website there's a place to ask Dr Al, under technical support, and he usually answers within a day or so. He was very helpful when I asked a question.
  9. Just out of curiosity have you ever had one burst into flames? Is that more for gel candles? Also keep track of how much color you use so that if you really like it you'll be able to reproduce it. Take notes. You should test each combination of wax, color, wick and fo. Takes time but well worth it to have a good product.
  10. Your pictures are great, very nice set up. I did my very first craft show yesterday as well. My setup table was ok, not as nice as yours. I'm in Buffalo Ny and the weather was pretty good here too. I was very disappointed with how slow it was. I barely covered my table fee. People admired my wax bears but I only sold a few. I sold only a couple of candles. However the show also let vendors like home interiors in. In spite of the low turnout of shoppers I heard she did excellent. She had to go home for more stock. Do you do well at home parties? I have 3 lined up before xmas and I'm hoping for one more craft show. I certainly hope business picks up.
  11. Try Just Scents. When you buy 2 lbs they give you 3 free samples. Last time they were out of what I requested so they gave me 6 free samples. Loved them all. I figure I'm going to need a third job to finance my second job(candles and wax bears) which I got into cause my first job doesn't pay enough.
  12. Well I don't do malls for a couple of reasons. First I'm really small and work alone so I can't really do it. You have to have somebody there all day and I figure If I'm there I'm not making candles or wax bears or filling orders from home parties. At our mall someone already sells soy candles. The girl they had working couldnt have cared less about selling. She saw us but just kept on dusting the display and didn't even approach us as we looked. So not much was being sold. And then you are required by the mall in my area to be open the whole time the mall is open. Those are some long hours especially during the holidays. Not trying to discourage you but there are pros and cons to each way of selling. Who knows your hubby might be right and if he isn't just don't do it next year. Good luck and let usknow how you make out with it.
  13. thanks for the suggestions hadn't thoght of Big Lots
  14. I will be doing a home party soon as well. Lots of good pointers here. have a couple of questions. How long should a home party last? At what point should refreshments be served.
  15. I know you have to have ingredients on the label but is your address a legla requirement?
  16. Anyone know of a good source for baskets that are cheaper than A C Moore or Michaels? The one I found online required large minimum purchase.
  17. I make candles from baby food jars but am not real happy with the burn. Have tried 44's which seemed to hot and 36C which were just ok but seemed like they were going to go out but didn't. Now trying LX10. Has anyone else wicked these jars successfully? I want to use them for baby shower baskets.
  18. Tropical Sunrise sounds nice. Where do you get that scent?
