    I was at a craft show where a bee keeper was selling lotion with honey in it. It also had vit E oil and water among other things in the list of ingredients. i thought a lotion with water needed a preservative but he said honey was a natural preservative and that no other preservative was necessary. It really was quite nice but I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if he was right. Was he right?

    So here is a pic of a the blanket I did for my year old grandson. I will be going to Oregon to visit soon because she is having another baby. It's a girl this time so they are giving the new baby the blanket I made last year that has pink in it.

    If I was a customer I wouldn't be happy to sniff a tester with a great cold throw and find that the actual tarts I purchased didn't have any cold throw.

    My advice is to go with the beeswax candles. There are wicks especially for beeswax and you can make a good quality candle. You will never get a good quality safe candle melting random old candles down. There are different kinds of wax, additives, and dyes, etc, some of which will never burn properly together no matter how much testing you do.

    Do a search on your wax and read what other people say. I don't use your wax but from what I've read, it looks good in the jar but cold and hot throw aren't great for a lot of fo's. It also needs to cure for quite a while, maybe a week or more. I use cb135 and it can have more frosting issues but it has great cold and hot throw for me. I use a little beeswax for smoother tops.

    If you do a search on feather palm you should find a couple of threads by Topofmurrayhill where he gives his results of some extensive testing he did on these two waxes.

    You have to test your dye, fo and wick combo before you take orders. Why did you use more dye? I don't know what caused the crystals but changing the amount of dye can certainly change how your wick burns and may even clog it.

    I wouldn't ever leave a presto pot on unattended. Too much of a fire hazard in my opinion. The thermostat could easily malfunction. It just doesn't take that long to reheat the next day. And I don't melt a full pot late in the day unless I'm going to use most of it. Very cool setup Rae! Wish I had that.

    A few years back when I was selling candles, I carried liability insurance for my business. I did not carry any extra insurance on my home. I want to start selling again but now I am married and I don't want to put my husband at risk to lose everything if the house burns and the homeowners won't cover it because of my candles. If I could get a separate business policy would I still have to tell my homeowners? Does anyone have any advice or know of a company in NY to get ins. I've read through most of the posts on insurance and it doesn't look too promising for me to be able to do this business.

    With shipping so high I suggest you start with a supplier close to you or who has the best shipping to you. Then do a search here on your wax and read everything you can. Then get sample packs of whatever wicks you choose and start testing. Maybe get a couple of kinds, like htp and cd and burn them side by side.

    An LLC is expensive in NY too so I can't really afford it, but I do carry insurance. But I don't know if I would get ins for a one time event.

    He's cute. I like his bow. My whole house used to smell like cinnamon when I did those. I sold quite a few.

    I want to make tarts and after reading I've narrowed my choice to IGI 4794 or feather palm. I've decided to use candlescience because I get other supplies from them and their shipping to me is reasonable. How is the cold throw for palm compared to 4794? I'm thinking they'll both have a good hot throw. Is a lower melt point better for tarts? Do tarts sell better if you carry the warmers too? Can I sell the warmers at craft shows where they say everything must be handcrafted? So many questions.......

    I have some eo's from a coop in 2008 stored in aluminum bottles that have never been opened. Are these still good? Is the shelf life similar to fo's? I will probably never use these and would sell on the classies if I thought they were usable. They would have to be shipped ground right? I also have honey almond eo blend from wsp which smells ok but has a use by date of 6/09. Stored in the basement also. If I use this in a product will it reduce the shelf life of the product say m&p soap or lotion?

    After reading Tops threads on palm waxes I've been thinking about trying them. So I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether AH/RE oils would be good to test in palm since they're having their scent event.
