  1. I'm thinking of trying some scents from Candle Cocoon. Has anyone tried Brandied Pear, creme brulee cafe, sultry angel, serendipity or tiger lily? If so what is your opinion in this wax. Will I be able to go with 5 or 6%? I usually buy 1 or 2 oz size and just try it but I only see lb size on their website unless I'm missing something.

  2. I like the plastic. I use silicone to attach my wick tabs so there's no chance the wick will fall over and melt the plastic. They must be heat resistant because my tester burned one for 7 hours straight and she said didn't overheat or anything. However I haven't tried the metal so I really can't compare the advantages/disadvantages of each.

  3. I love my Presto pot too. I used a double boiler method for 6 months before I switched. So glad I did. Use the Presto for cooking? hmmmmmm there's a novel idea that could catch on somewhere but probably not on this board! Actually if the Presto people realized how many are used as wax melters they'd probably change the name and raise the price.

  4. Haven't had a lot of frosting but I poured most of my candles when it was warm out. We'll see how the frosting is when I pour now in a cooler house. I use mostly liquid and sometimes dye chips for colors I have a hard time with, like bayberry and cranberry. I get a green tint with brown so I use a walnut liquid dye. I like it better. Maybe I'll test some eco 8 wicks to see how they compare to mine.

  5. I've been making candles less than a year so I'm still a newbie and I've been pretty much sticking to 1 jar. I mainly use the 8 oz square mason jars with a super large hemp core wick. I don't see many people using these but it's the only wick I can get a full melt pool with. I tried 60's and htp 105's but both left the corners. Maybe Top could suggest something as well. I think he uses CB135 also. Right mow I use fo's from Millcreek, Just Scent and Southern Scentsations at 1.5 oz per pound. I don't want to have to use a lot of different size wicks so if an fo doesn't work with my wick and jar I just won't use it. Mango Papaya is one of those that just has no throw. Over the next few months I want to test Golden Brands new wax. CB135 is the only wax I've used so I have nothing to compare it too. I also want to try scents from suppliers that I could use less % of fo and maybe test some other wicks. There's a few more I want to try.

  6. 1. Does your pot have no spigot because it is a hassle to install or use one?

Not necessarily a hassle, I just don't need it.

    2. Would you use a presto pot with an electric spigot? no

    3. On a scale of one to five, how much of a hassle is it to use a presto pot with no spigot? No hassle at all, the pot is very lightweight. Very easy to pour into pour pot. Rarely have spills or drips.

  7. I got mine with Travelers through an independent agent. Whoever you find make sure you tell them exactly what you do or you may not be completely covered. For instance one place I called would cover me for candles but not firestarters. I know there's a site that lists insurance companies by state who will insure candle making but I can't remember but you should be able to find by searching. I consider insurance a must have.

  8. What price do you ask for your standard 8oz soy candle?? 6.50 or 2/10

What price do you ask for your standard package of soy tarts?? 3.00

How many tarts do you place in a package?? 6 (clamshell pkg)

Do you color your soy candles?? yes

Do you color your soy tarts?? yes

Do you make soy votives?? no

Do you color your soy votives?? n/a

What price do you ask for your soy votives?? n/a

Do you sell your votives in a package (6-12-24)?? n/a

Location matters. I'm in NY state and the craft shows I went to this year I had to lower my prices to compete. Was selling candles for 7.50 to start.

  9. I'm using CB135 and cranberry spice at 9% with liquid cranberry dye to a medium shade and pouring halfway up so I have the full 4" diameter for a test. Guess the wick was about 1/4" because thats what my warning label says. And if a customer ever read the label, lol, was trying to duplicate what they might do. Wth the 83's I got a melt pool in about 50 minutes. I thought it was supposed to take about 2+ hours for a jar that size. I'll test again tonite. How full should I fill this jar when I finally get a nice burn. The wicks are spaced about 1 1/2 inches apart so when its filled more the flames will be real near the glass making it really hot. I've only used mason and pumpkin jars and this jar is thinner and gets a lot hotter. I guess I'm not sure whats normal. Thank you so much for all your help.

  10. I'm trying to double wick an apothecary jar with a 3 " opening and a diameter of 4". I wicked with 2 htp 83's and had a full melt pool in less than an hour, way too hot. It's not a real heavy jar so I don't want to over wick.So tonite I tried again with htp 73's. nice melt pool, great throw, but not a nice steady flame. smaller flames with lot of flickering but didn't drown out. I seem to have this problem every time I try to double wick. is flickering like this normal for double wicking? Does it mean the wick is too small or too large? I'd like to try something else tomorrow. I've got 44 cottons and hemp core wicks also. Any other suggestions?

  11. I came home from work to find a message from Jason. He called to ask if i received my sample yet. I'm glad he's taking such a personal interest to call and check. Haven't received mine yet but really looking forward to trying a new wax. I sure wish I could find a wax supplier close to me.

  12. I haven't tried Candle Cocoon scents yet but I will. I would like to be able to use less scent. I've been using a lot of MC and from their message board most seem to use 1.5 oz per pound except for the real heavy oils. So being new I followed their lead and the scent throw is great. I use CB135 and I do have a couple of scents that don't throw at all. Besides Candle Cocoon who else has great scents that I should be able to use at 5%.

  13. I'm trying to wick the 16 oz snowflake jar from Candles and Supplies. I want to double wick. I have Htp 83 and 104's 105's also 44 51 and 60 cottons. Also have large hemp wicks. I tested this jar before and I can't find my notes but I remember the jar being hotter than I wanted. Seems like a thinner glass. I'm afraid the holidays will be over before I figure this one out. Hoping to use a wick I have in stock at this point. Any starting point suggestions would be appreciated. I use CB135.
