  1. I bought some beeswax sheets and 2/0 and 1/0 sq braid wick from betterbee. I cut 1 sheet in half and made 2 straight 8 " candles using the 2/0 wick. The diameter is 3/4". I cut another sheet on an angle and made 2 tapered candles that are under an inch at the top and 1 1/2 " on the bottom. I used the 2/0 for this as well. They are wrapped pretty tight. Both spilled over the top. What am I doing wrong? I haven't tried it yet but won'ta larger wick be too big ?

I also made a 2 inch diameter pillar with a 1/0 wick and that one seems ok so far except the wick stays very long. Is there a better wick I should be using or is there a self trimming wick I could use for rolled beeswax?

  2. When you measure your liquid wax into your pyrex glass you need to weigh it rather than look at the 8 oz measure on the side of the cup. Same is true for your FO. So take your pyrex cup, put it on the scale and tare it (zero out the weight). take another cup and scoop your liquid wax out of the pot and into your cup on the scale until you have 8 oz in weight on the scale. measure your FO the same way and add it to your liquid wax. hth

  3. Had a show this past weekend. I saw a man there selling soy candles. They were 8 oz jars. They were in a jar that looked like a canning jar. I being the noisey person that I am, and wanting to check out my competition. Went up and asked him. How much are these? He tells me they are 100% soy and are $5.00 a piece or 5 for $20.00. I went back to my booth and told my husband. We both are stumped. How could he sell that cheap?? I bettcha they were not 100%soy What does everyone else thinK???

That is interesting. I went to a show this past weekend and it sounds like the same vendor. the prices caught my eye too. The vendor I saw has a website so I checked it out. Well on the website it says you can dip your fingers in the melted soy wax candle. Dumb idea. Aside from being dangerous I'm sure not all of their fragrances are skin safe.

  4. If you do a search on wicks or wick charts you'll find a lot of info. The recommendations of your vendor are a starting point for testing. You may find that as you test different fragrances that you have to wick up for heavier ones like cinnamon or vanilla to get a good burn. What works for one person may not work for someone else with a different soy wax either.

  5. I bought some yellow beeswax for the first time to try some balloon orbs. They came out ok but I'm still practicing. Then I bought some more from the same supplier and couldn't believe the variation in color. The second batch was much much lighter. Does the color always vary this much? Can I mix the two shades together for a blended color?

  6. I had the same problem and after searching found tacky wax at delphiglass.com. The only other supplier of micro I found was out of it and said it would be hard to find. I haven't tried it yet so I can't tell you if it works. Going to use it for beeswax orbs but havent had the time lately. I hope it works. They sell it in half pound blocks for $5.95

  7. I did a show where on the second day they allowed vendors to come in and sure enough a girl selling Yank** candles came in, sold her candles really cheap and had to leave and come back with more inventory. Needless to say I didn't do that show again. After that I always found out who else was at a show before doing one and how many candle makers they were going to allow etc. before I signed up

  8. No one is going to admit they did something stupid and I'm sure that you would still be sued. And then you would have to make each customer sign this waiver as proof they saw it. Who has time for that at a busy craft show or candle party. And I don't think people would want to sign it. You would lose some customers or people would sign fake names, etc. I would carry the insurance.

  9. I tried but didn't like using gloves. I prefer tongs. one pair to hold and one to squeeze. warmed them in the wax so there was no marks on the bear. fluffed with toothpicks on a cooling rack. when they stopped dripping moved them to wax paper

  10. wax dipped washcloths and towels... interesting idea. If they are completely soaked when they are dipped they should scent as well as a small bear I would think. The care would be the same as and dipped critter. I would just blow it off with a cool hairdryer when it gets dusty. I have a few reservations about dipped toilet paper though lol
