  1. Rachel, thanks for the info. I have not finalized my wholesale stragedy(sp?) yet, I was trying to find a price for places that maybe didn't want to carry a whole line of candles, maybe just have some at a counter for impulse buys. I was also thinking I would give perks to orders over, say $100 such as free shipping maybe. I have no problem crediting back the money they paid for the sample, like I said, just didn't want people getting free stuff and never hearing from them again. I feel you have to give something to get something and if they actually ordered a sample package, a credit back to them on the first order may just be enough to be a consistent customer. Thank you guys for your suggestions and will welcome others
  2. I am trying to branch out into wholesale accounts and was wondering if anyone has tried this. Without spending a lot of money, I wanted to send an intro letter with a brochure and within the letter stating something to the effect of: For $20.00 including shipping, I will send you a sample pack of product and the $20.00 will be deducted on your first order over $40.00. Is that tacky? My reasoning behind this is I don't want to spend a fortune in packaging and shipping sending samples to stores who are not interested but at the same time, I do not want the skanks requesting samples who are not interested at all but just want something for free. I suck at marketing so any comments are greatly appreciated!!!
  3. Thanks guys. Guess it is not even worth checking further. When I get large enough to order 24,000 lbs annually, then I will start checking...LOL
  4. Just out of curiosity, what is IGI charging for a pallet of wax? Just wondering if this is a large markup for suppliers.
  5. That is too cool!!! If it was this time last year, I would have been more than happy to get you one. My BF and I were traveling between Colorado or California and New York about once a month and would have been more than happy to find a AA terminal and have someone grab one off the plane for you. At least that would have given us something to do during the lengthy lay-overs!!!
  6. To store leftover wax--including scented--I use the food storage containers. I just use the store brand, just make sure if you are storing scented wax, that they have the #5 on the bottom. And yes, the UV inhibitor will prevent fading
  7. Funny you should ask this today--I am making them as we speak...cleaning out jars of old wax I fill my cupcake holders about 1/2 to 3/4 full, pour melted wax over, stir around a bit for wax to soak into sawdust, refill to top if needed and add my potpourri on top. Hope that helps....
  8. Lin, You are just too freakin' awesome!!! I would consider it a priveledge to pay you to make me a centerpiece candle!!!! I am so glad you are doing great with the cake candles...they are beautiful!!
  9. Check out Michaels, they have a paint that is make for metal. I can't remember what it is called but it is in the area with the acrylic paints. Works great, doesn't chip off
  10. Do you have something like Mailboxes, Etc in Canada? Maybe if you could get one on them in the "city", have supplies shipped there and pick them up all at once.
  11. I print my own, I don't have the volume to justify a print job yet. I am also still tweaking my labels, a little change here, a little change there.
  12. Something else to keep in mind when deciding on wax....wax is a heavy shipping item so see if you can find a wax you like that is close to you. I don't know where you live but shipping on wax adds up really quick!!
  13. Not to hijack this thread, but how do you determine which wicks to testing with? Do you take the diameter of the jar and divide by 2 and use that wick or do you starter with a little smaller wick, assuming the heat of the 2 wicks combined would create a hotter burn?
  14. Hey Robin---How cool is that??? Congratulations!!! This is the start of bigger and better things for you. And on top of that, who can beat free nationwide advertising?!?!?!
  15. I picked the gold tins for the same reason. WSP has them in lesser quantity.
  16. on you. Yesterday I ran to the drug store to pick up something and there was a fundraiser going on in front. And of course, I didn't have a brochure on me. I had just printed them and hadn't folded them and put some in my purse yet, so I ran home, got one and gave it to a lady at the fundraiser to pass it along to the people involved. So, note to self......always have a brochure available!!!!!!!
  17. I haven't totally decided on pricing yet but yes the jars are a little more expensive. I was thinking of taking a little less profit on the 4 oz jars, but make it up in selling the larger jars. I was just looking for jars that were a little out of the ordinary.
  18. Thanks Terri--I got them from Fillmore Container, I found them when WSP announced they were discontinuing the 20 oz. Fillmore has 4, 12 & 20 in Morgan jars. HTH
  19. Wishing you the best with your surgery, but don't be too quick to give up candles. My Mom had her hip replaced a couple of summers ago and within 6 months she was basically doing everything she had before and the next summer she was out mowing the lawn, gardening and has no restrictions on anything she can do. And she says she has never felt better! So don't be too hasty, maybe even in a couple of months you can start to get back into it slowly
  20. I found the jars at www.fillmorecontainer.com The guy was really nice to deal with, sent me the samples for free, just needed to pick up shipping. I also got the frosted jars there.
  21. I was using 1.5 oz, 4 oz and 9 oz Hex which I am keeping, but I also had flowerpots and a round jar which I think I am discontinuing maybe only for special orders. The labeling is another issue. I was thinking of round labels for the morgan jars and square for the frosted. Any input would be appreciated and welcomed!!!
  22. Thank you all! I was looking for a different jar and I really like them...except for the wicking...LOL
  23. The 4 oz one I used an LX12 and seems to be burning fine, no hangups, but the 10 and 18 oz ones have some hangup. Still going thru my first test burn and waiting to see if it catches up with itself or need to wick up
  24. Here is a picture of a votive I was asked to make for a friend's daughter baby shower. She wanted 45 and they weren't as bad to make as I thought. The hardest part was keeping the batches straight, she wanted 3 different fragrances all the same style. Can't tell too good from the picture, but the base was white and topped off with baby blue, she knows she is having a boy. Thanks for looking....
