ladysj
I've been seeing wick screws during my candle equipment searches & magnets. Does anyone use these & what really is the purpose of them & are they worth it?
ksranch
I started out using wick screws and had nothing but issues - then took advise from this forum and started using metal tape - issues gone!

Pam W
wick screws are notorious for cutting wicks :-{
tlc
I went from using wick screws to the metal tape after reading someones tip on the forum about it. I'm a much happier camper now. I haven't heard about magnets and I'm not sure I get how that is supposed to work.

They do work - just place them over the wick hole....
Stella1952
The tape is da bomb. This is the silver, metallic tape used for heating & AC ductwork - not to be confused with the silver duct tape. This stuff is really metal and is shiny. CandleAddict_RN
So, to understand this correctly, you put the wick through the wick hole in the mold and tape it in place using this metal tape? Then use your wick bar to secure it tight at the other end? I never thought of using it like that. I have used wick pins for most but I do have a few molds that I would rather pre-wick. And I did buy some of this tape some time ago for a specific mold where the wick pins stand up inside the mold instead of coming up through the bottom so the wick holes had to be covered to prevent leakage. Pam W
Do you tape over the magnet after it's applied? No - that little sucker sticks tight!! I only use the magnet on a couple square tin molds that I rarely use anyway. I've never tried it on the aluminum molds.
Stella1952
Magnets don't stick to aluminum.
