Spongy Bath Bombs

I have this recipe for bath bombs that I used to make years ago...don't remember them being 'spongy' the next day. By spongy I mean slightly compressable. No fizzy bumps on the surface so I don't think it's a humidity issue -

I use weights and measurements -

9.8 baking soda

2.7 cornstarch

4.3 citric acid

1 1/4 tsp. water

3 1/4 tsp. oil (using frac. coconut oil - used to use almond - could that matter?)

2 tsp. FO

1/4 tsp. borax

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

There is a bath bomb cupcake class on this forum and the base of the cupcake (that recipe) makes awesome round bath bombs too! I'd suggest trying that one if you want some nice rock-hard bombs.

Thanks for the reply - I'll check out that recipe...I cut my fragrance in half and that seems to have solved the spongy problem; they sure didn't want to stick together though! (I use a little meatballer). Made me wonder why the heck I even considered making these again!

Yeah, for some reason my meatballer ones never got really hard until I tried that recipe. They are like bricks now! Woot!

Did you try cutting back on your wet also? I wouldn't totally eliminate humidity as it has been a nasty, nasty summer because of it, but I'm wondering if you have too much oil in there and why add the water if you have the oil? KWIM?
