  1. I have been buying from Sweetcakes since the mid-90's and would say their FO's are the best - - I have had to look elsewhere in the past few years to reduce expenses....but their Angel FO, at what $70+/lb - can't find anything, anywhere, that compares.
  2. I use the Manteca (sp?) brand, in the green and white bucket...I don't have any ROE or Vit. E, dang it....does anyone make this soap with 0% superfat? Doesn't it come out brittle with no superfat? (Impossible to cut)..
  3. Huh, just did a Google search and it looks like the general opinion is lard is good 'on the shelf' 4-6 months.... I want the 'Lye Soap' for poison ivy and laundry stains... but it goes bad on me so quick (
  4. I have made this soap many times through the years using just plain old lard and lye, but it ALWAYS goes bad, gets the dreaded orange spots. I think I've tried no lye discount, to a 5% discount and get the same results....is it something anyone else runs into or is it just me?? I have people asking for it, but I hesitate to make it because of my spot problem! Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Judy
  5. I went ahead and melted and repoured without adding any additional FO.... Look good so far.
  6. Geez, bought some of the status jars at Dollar Tree, did my wick testing, etc. Ordered jars and *lids*...... Poured about a dozen candles, let them cool a couple days....went to put the *lids* on and guess what??? I poured too much wax in the jars and the lids mushed into the wax (..... Why are these lids sooo hard to get down flush with the top of the jar....pushing, turning...) Sooooo my question is, can I melt the wax out of the jars and repour the wax? Would I need to add more FO? I tried removing some wax and using heat gun to smooth the surface, don't like the way it looks. Thanks in advance, Judy
  7. I know the shipping is expensive on these but thought I'd make sure there's not a better 'deal' out there before I order :smiley2: I'm located in Kansas, the price I'm getting on 24 jars and lids breaks out to $2.93 each with shipping..................is that about as good as I'm going to be able to get?? (I have found the jars at Dollar General....but in pricing just the jars w/shipping I'd pay $.43 more to have them shipped right to my door - - - ) I guess I just need a sanity check if anyone has one! TIA, Judy
  8. I love your label! Do you print those yourself? Very nice! Edited to also say your soap is gorgeous, too
  9. I'm not familiar with their 12 cavity silicone mold.... But I would just keep it really warm so you can get each little cavity to gel.... Towel under the mold, maybe a box covering the mold then cover that with a towel... Just a thought :0)
  10. That does look a little less expensive than HSMG.....I'll look into it when I'm due to renew...thanks!
  11. Can I ask what the Brower insurance costs for 1,000,000 liability?
  12. If I've got one I know heats up I put my mold up on a cookie cooling rack (is that what those are called?)... When I'm not out in my shop (actually a barn my husband finished off for me) I turn the heat down to about 55. If I have poured soap that day I set my wooden molds on towels, cover them with Rubbermaid plastic boxes, then towels on top of all that....if it's one I know gets hot I try and wait until I see it starting to gel, then I cover it up. I like to keep the soap warm for as long as I can....seems to make a better texture in the soap :0)
  13. I found some clear ones on Amazon.com for .79 each - - with shipping they came out to about $1.00 each...so it worked out ok. Thanks for your input ~~ Judy
  14. The cracking is caused by your FO making the soap really heat up (which you don't know will happen until you use that FO- next time, if there is one don't insulate as much). The mottling, I think, is also caused by this fragrance.....I have learned that certain FO's that really heat up will cause the titanium dioxide to do exactly what happened here. You didn't do anything wrong, just learned that you will use this fragrance again (no titanium, little if no insulation) or let it go. Hope that helps :0)
  15. Not sure if this is the right place in the forum to post this - but I'm looking for those 'travel' soap box/dish things...you know, the ones that snap closed....I've looked at Wal Mart, nothing....Target had them but they had the Target logo on them. I need about 25.... Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Judy
  16. I have used it for years at .08/lb. with no issues......best Chai Tea in CP!
  17. I use them for my business cards - agree, great prices and their service has always been good. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them!
  18. Yes, I've looked there...unless I'm missing them it looks like they're 'shortest' kraft bag is 8" tall...........
  19. Would anyone know where to find a source of kraft paper shopping bags, with a handle, that is about 5" tall (not including the handle)....all I can find is 8" and taller... Thanks in advance, Judy
  20. Thanks maggie! That site did give me the idea to go with something involving 'a little birdie told me' -...now I've just got to figure out what the birdie said :0) Love your name, almost named our daughter maggie may...went with Maggie Ann Thanks again
  21. I'm hoping someone can help me...I've been asked to do a custom soap label for my niece's baby shower. Her mom would like the wording on the label to be from 'the baby' saying something to the effect of 'thank you for sharing this special day and enjoy this bar of soap' = = = All I can think of is something about a 'bird bath' and with that comes memories of 7th grade gym class, washing arm pits in the sink!!! The theme is baby birds..... there will be a graphic of a bird cage....I am at a TOTAL loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Judy
  22. I contacted the gal who made them (was hoping to find them but broke down and asked!) = = she was more than generous in sharing that she found those at a close-out store; possibly Tuesday Morning. She wished she could find more too........
  23. Thought that was the same 'Angel' but they are a little different....darn it. Checking Etsy right now...
  24. Ahhh, good idea -- you could be right, fairies....thank you!
  25. I know, aren't they cute? Been searching and searching and so far I haven't found anything close. I did buy a mold to make a concrete bench, though! lol ~
