soy327
This is my 3rd attempt to make a parasoy (yes I am straying) I am getting hairline cracks in the wax on the sides not on the top. I am blending exel and 4627 80/20 soy/paraffin. I have read for over week with the search on the 4627 and only found one cracking problem in the candles. No real remedies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
IwantItgreen
If you carefully dissect that candle, I think you'll find an air-pocket inside near the wick. I had that too with a 4627/415 blend. Your in a cooler climate the same as I, so I'm pretty sure it's a cooling problem. I've cooled in the oven, under styrofoam coolers and would still get one that did it here and there. You could try wrecking the tops and do a repour. HorseScentS
What size hex jars are those? I like them. & I've never seen that type of wick clip before, where do you get them?
Lorelei
I would love to know why you are straying that might be another thread too....but I'm thinking of the same thing.
soy327
They are 9.5oz from peak, and the wick clips I love from BCN.Lorelei, I have alot of good FO that throw well in the soy, but I don't color because of the frosting. So I got curious reading through all the old post and talked to a couple people that offered me some to try. So I thought well what could it hurt. There are alot of people out there that don't mind if it's soy, palm, or paraffin, they just want a good smelling candle. I was also told if it doesn't have great HT in the 4627 than throw out the FO:laugh2:HTH both of your questions.Iwantitgreen, thanks for the reply I think maybe I will try pouring a little cooler to see what happens. I've poured from 170 down to 150. I am used to pouring soy at 105 or so.
WillowBoo
Pour a little cooler and that should help. Sometimes I poke a relief hole as well (when I remember) and just heat it over with a heat gun.

soy327
Crack, crack, crack. well back the candle room.
soy327
Update, I went back and reread some of the old posts.:tiptoe: I read a post form Candybee, It said get your soy down, get your paraffin down, and thus getting to know your waxes. Then start blending. Wise words :laugh2:So this morning, I'm up at 6:00am melting Paraffin wax 4627 only, pink sugar. They came out great:yay: I know some of you think I'm crazy :laugh2:It's February and I hate winter sooooo. Now I'm also thinkin about the shrinkage that is making my blend crack. Maybe more paraffin? and 464, I also have C3. Well the candle room is now my residence.
WillowBoo
I use the C3 and the 4627 and I had some cracking as well. When I poured cooler and slowed down the cooling process, I haven't had the cracking. I use more 4627 in the blend though than you do and I add CO to the mix.I also wanted to note if certain scents have anything to do with it. Maybe it was just a matter of coincidence the scents I used different after the cracking problem just didn't have the tendency.
soy327
WillowBoo, thanks I really appreciate the help. I did try 1oz CO and it didn't help I thought that was alot. I think I will up the 4627 to 30%. The pink sugar 100% 4627 has been curing for 30hrs now and the jar adhesion is still perfect. I am shocked:laugh2:How long do you wait to test burn? I always wait at least 4 days or so with Soy.
Stella1952
How long do you wait to test burn? I always wait at least 4 days or so with Soy.Well, for the ones that are 80% soy, I think I'd go with what works for the majority ingredient. It never hurts to wait a bit. The only problem is not waiting long enough. Edited February 27, 2011 by Stella1952
soy327
Thanks Stella, I'm not burning yet:drool: I have will power.:laugh2:NOT. I've been busy making and order for palm votives for my friend in FL, I've made 78 (for the 1st time) I made featherburst and I am hooked. Didn't have enough Starburst so I mixed em:yay: Stand by cause I see a pillar in my future. How many projects can one stand and still live to talk about it
