Daves'sHomemade
Trying hand at pillars. First attempt. Ordered 3" dia mold, some Feather Palm and 24 ply flat braid wick. Have only worked with paraffin. Any suggestions? Yes I have read tons here, however anything to make life easier right off the bat, I'm all ears. Stella1952
• Add 1 T/PP of palm stearic acid to aid with release.• Heat wax to 200°F; heat molds; warm FO if it's cold in your pouring area.• Cool the candle in a styrofoam cooler or wrap with a towel & cover with a box.• Do air pocket relief when top is 1/4" thick. Repeat at intervals until there is no more liquid wax• Don't expect palm wax to burn like paraffin or soy• Search the veggie wax forums for palm wax info - there's a LOT in here already • Have fun!! Daves'sHomemade
Is there a difference between Stearic Acid and Palm Stearic Acid? My main supplier only lists Stearic Acid? Dave
topofmurrayhill
Is there a difference between Stearic Acid and Palm Stearic Acid? My main supplier only lists Stearic Acid? DaveThere is animal-derived stearic acid, but I've only been seeing the palm variety from candle suppliers in the past 2 or 3 years. Most likely it's palm stearic even if they aren't specific about it, or at least a vegetable-derived stearic. You might want to ask to be certain.Any kind should work about same if it's a suitable grade for candle applications, but you'd probably want a veggie type. Daves'sHomemade
Thanks all, I emailed my supplier and their Stearic Acid is the correct one and they added it to my order. Why they are working on Sunday is crazy! Their customer service has always been FANTASTIC. Just a shame they are across the country and their wax shipping costs are prohibitive now. Daves'sHomemade
1st pillars came out awesome. Does the Stearic Acid do anything else besides aid in mold release? Palm wax is some really cools stuff. To date I have only been using paraffin and wow, I'm liking this stuff.Dave
mparadise
They usually shrink enough once they are cool to just pop right out but you may want to consider adding a UV inhibitor because my palm seems to fade/discolor over time more than my old paraffin did. Just a thought.
