nursenancy
Has anyone used pvc pipe successfully for candle molds? I have a special order for 2" pillars. I know I can get molds from CW but I'm wondering about making my own TIA
Candybee
Never thought about it. Do you have mold release spray? Might come in handy.
beekeeper_sd
Yes, you can use PVC for a mold. Use silicone spray to release the finished candle. We did a 4" square beeswax candle and it turned out beautifully.
nursenancy
I think I'm going to try it - thanks!
Dustpuuppy
You can get silicone lubricant at an auto parts store. Without that or mold release, you'll most likely be using a chisel to demold them. If you can find a flat piece of PVC, you can use PVC glue to glue it to the bottom for a base. Glue all the way around on the outside. The glue welds the two pieces together. The PVC holds heat longer than a metal mold. You'll have to wait longer for repour and demolding than usual. Starr
For a 2 inch round, you can get plastic caps that will fit over the bottom opening. That and some metal foil tape (which you can also get at the hardware store) should be sufficient.
Miadrianel Candles
Man I can just imagine a giant pillar made with something like this!I've been meaning to try this for some time now will have to soon...
Dustpuuppy
I recall seeing a pic, somewhere of one that was 6" and about 3 feet tall. Seems like they did several of differing heights as a special order.
