Help with sealing molds for palm

Hi

I regularly make palm pillars and haven't had this problem till I changed my wax supplier. I put putty (called blue tac here - sticks kids paper pictures to walls etc) then I put a generous amount of duct tape over this and some of the molds leak:angry2:

I know the pouring temp has to be 200-210F and I pour at 200 into alluminium molds. Can anyone give me some advise to help solve this expensive problem?? Thank you

Two strips of duct tape works for me so far.

If I am using wick pins, I use plumbers putty. You gotta let it sit though for about 20 min before pouring.

If I'm using a wick, I use the metal tape you can buy from Lowe's and such. I put one strip going one way and then make a cross and put the other strip going the other way.

With the tape, you might get a little seepage, but not much at all.

Metal tape works for me.

I used to use candle mold putty, available from most suppliers, until I tried the metal tape used for HVAC ducting systems (not to be confused with duct tape) that others have referenced. Works great and is far less messy than the putty.
