Eden Sass Posted February 3, 2008 Share Posted February 3, 2008 I used this before I switched to soy and I used a big 'chinese cleaver' - I put newspaper down on the floor, then put the wax paper ontop of that and then 2 slabs of the wax down and chopped up 2 at a time and stored it in smaller clumps so it was all ready to go when I needed to weigh it. Eden Sass Posted February 3, 2008 Share Posted February 3, 2008 btw a helpful tip (which U will find out on your own anyway) - use a dishtowel or something between your hand and the knife so you don't get a lovely indent across your hand... and the $$$ stores have cheap chopping knives that work alright!! Jane42 Posted February 3, 2008 Share Posted February 3, 2008 We have found this little tool to work great. You can find it in any kitchen specialty store/outlet. The one we have is ALL metal...where the black handle is on this, ours has is just rolled metal. It's called a scraper/chopper.We pile the slabs of wax on top of each other in our rubbermaid container, then just slice off what we need with this handy dandy chopper. funkymonkey66 Posted February 3, 2008 Share Posted February 3, 2008 Take the slab and line the center of the slab up on your counter and press down hard. It breaks in half very easily, just repeat in sections until you get ones small enought to fit in your melter. I think a knife takes too long and it makes too much of a mess.
