Glass Glow and CSN Wick Users

Recommended Posts

I have just started testing the Glass Glow again and am running into the same problems I had with the CSN wicks in my first round of testing months ago ... the wicks are really limp and start falling over once the candle reaches a full melt pool.

Anyone else experiencing the limp wick syndrome with the CSN's? I'm about ready to give up on the CSN's and start trying different wicks.

Hi Stella,

I was just getting ready to PM you, someone PM'd me and suggested I contact you to find out what type of wick you use in your palm candles.

By limp I mean they literally fall over into the melt pool. They do also have the self trimming curl at the tip but they actually fall over at the point where the melt pool and the solid wax meet.

I had some of the CSN's left over from earlier testing that were limp as well but after reading that CS had started using a high melt point wax to coat their wicks I decided to order more to see if the CSN's had improved with the new coating. Well, the new wicks I received are identical to the old so I don't know what happened there. The CSN's are limp and floppy out of the bag.

I ran into that problem over Christmas when I was pouring for the season. I had some jars I was double wicking and when I would go to burn them, sometimes one wick would just fall over into the mp.

I didn't run into it will all my candles and it was my HTP's that were doing that. I figured it was just me.

I had a customer actually bring a candle back because the wick had fallen over and she couldn't get the candle to burn right afterwards. Same thing as I was running into... once she got a fmp, a wick would just all of a sudden fall over into the mp.

...perhaps cialis or viagra would help...:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

I'M SORRY!!! :embarasse I know I'm goin' straight to the hot spot for that one, but I couldn't help myself.

OK, I'll behave...:lipsrseal

We use CDNs (Stabilo KSTs) in palm wax and soy wax. I have not tested the CSN sample pack I bought ages ago yet, so I really don't know what to say 'cause I don't know how they behave... You ARE trimming these to 1/4", right? I have never had one fall over so I am at a loss as to the cause... I know that a lot of folks use and love them, especially with GG... maybe they'll chime in with their observations...

Believe me, if Viagra would help these suckers perk up I'd be willing to give it a shot.

What size CDN would you recommend starting testing with in a 3" diameter tumbler for palm and also for a parasoy blend (70% soy)? Do any suppliers sell the CDN's in a sample pack?

Thanks for chiming in.

I would probably start with a 10, but it might take a 12, depending on the FO, height of container, phase of the moon, etc.... I have found that it doesn't take as much wick to burn palm wax as I thought it would initially... palm wax burns strangely, but often catches up late in the game.

I dunno nuttin' about parasoy, but hopefully someone who uses it will pipe up...

JBN sells a sample pack. I am not sure about other suppliers. Wickit and Wicks Unlimited will also send samples. HTH :)
