Gacela20
I'm a newbie to candle making. A few months back, I made my first and only candles (containers) and they were from paraffin. I'm very interested in trying soy pillars but I can't find any pics. People seem to discourage soy for pillars. Do any of you use soy wax for this type of candle? Do you have any pics? What do I need to bear in mind when doing soy pillars?
topofmurrayhill
Soy pillar wax doesn't get pliable when warm like paraffin does. You have to wick it just right because the shell can't be bent inwards for consumption. It's brittle. You're also more limited in terms of the finishes and effects you can get. Pretty much just a plain opaque surface finish and that's it. Having said that, here are pics of some quite nice looking soy pillars that were just posted in the gallery.http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7094
Henryk
Personally for soy pillars - I prefer a paraffin/soy blend. Some pics: http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=veggiewax;action=display;num=1110651533;start=14#
