TexasBrat
Is there such thing as putting in too much preservative? Is it bad?
daniedb
If you go overboard on the preservative %, it can be irritating to the skin. I'm usually pretty careful, but I always err on the side of caution - if the amount I'm supposed to put in is 5 grams, I'd rather put in 7 than 3, KWIM?I think if you're fairly close, like .3% instead of .1%, you're okay, but I would start to get nervous at 1%. TexasBrat
That's kind of what I thought, there was a little leway for error. I wish I had a scale that measured .01 etc. , I have a hard time figuring out how much preservative for small test batches.
daniedb
Ain't that the truth? Shhh...don't tell anyone, but I leave out the preservative in the test batches...unless I'm giving it to testers. My scale goes to .1, but even that is tricky, it's a little funny about the odd numbers, it tends to jump from .2 to .4, so like I said, I err on the higher side. I think as long as you're not just dumping the stuff in there, you'll be okay.
TexasBrat
I suppose it isn't really really necessary to use preservative in test batches, especially when I have to throw out a batch cuz I messed up. I'll rething how I do things in the future.
