jchernyb
I am new at making votives. I am using 4794 wax with 44z wick. In testing my votive, I find it burning down , leaving the sides up. Then, finally, the sides of the votive finally melt and even out. Is this how a votive is suppose to burn down, or am I doing something wrong. I am making alot of votives for Christmas presents but I dont want to give out a votive that is not burning down correctly either. HELP! wvcandleguy
sounds ok to me, but you didnt mention if you did a test melt in a votive holder or just free standing.. if you put it in a tight fitting holder it mite burn a little more evenly.. just a thought
jchernyb
I put in a votive holder---not tight fitting, about 1/2 inch larger all the way around. This is the first time that the 44z wick has not mushroomed. Instead it is curling up as it burns. Nice for a change!
wvcandleguy
sounds to me like you have it right. but then again, thats just my opinion
Fern
It sounds about right to me too. As long as the sides are catching up, I wouldn't be concerned about it.
Sarah
you could always try one size bigger and see if you like that.
jchernyb
Thanks for all the help. It just looked strange to me to see it burning and leaving the sides. Before I started making candles, I never really paid any attention to how a votive burned and now that I am making them...well... that is a whole different ballgame. I am checking the burn every 10 minutes and sniffing to see how the scent throw is! I want to make the perfect one for Christmas presents because I know that if I give them out, then I will have future customers if the throw is great and it burned evenly. sharyl55
I've had some votives with heavier scents that hang up at 1st but they always catch up. Sounds like you are doing OK. You can get some tight fitting votive holders at Michaels or WalMart. They have sales every so often..
