Math help PLEASE

I am going round in circles here & it's giving me such a sore head!

I'm trying to work out the cost per oz of my soy wax.

So if I buy my wax at £4.00 per kilo I need to divide 400 x 1000 = 0.4

then times 0.4 x 28.3 (grams per oz) +11.32....is that right?

11.32 pence per ounce?

multiply that by 11oz for a 3x3" pillar = 124.52 /£12.45

& thats before I add on the cost of f.o wick, production costs & wages.

That would all bring my costs to almost £15/$30 for a single 3x3" pillar.

Buying 25 kg at once would bring the costs down to £3.60 per kg (including tax & shipping) but that is still making one heck of a pricey candle.

Have I got that math right cos my eyes are blurred & my brain is fried now!

Thanks for any help.

Sally.

I think you are off in your decimal points.

let me see if I have this right:

wax is 4 pounds per kilo ( we don't have the nifty pound sign here). Which means you pay 400 pence per kilo, right? which means each gram would cost you 0.4pence.

An 11 oz candle is about 312 grams, so 0.4 pence X 312 grams means the wax costs you 124.8 pence which I believe is 1.24 pounds, right?

Here's my general calculation:

Wax

There are 34 ounces in 1kg, so

£4.00 / 34 oz = 11.7p per ounce

Total Cost of Wax: £1.28

Fragrance

On average, FO costs £1 per ounce

When using a ratio of 1oz of FO per Pound of wax I would round up to the nearest quarter of an ounce, so

11oz candle = 3/4 oz of FO

Total Cost of FO: 75p

Wick: 10p each

Dye: 10p if used

Total Cost of Candle: £2.13

(I didn't include dye as I know you don't use it)

Thanks Nat........major wind in the brain region as far as maths is concerned just now.

I'm sure I had my costings all worked out ages ago but do you think I could find it in any of my folders.....then my brain went on strike.......it's a conspiracy I tell you!
