lindsaycb Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 To pouring tilted layered pillars? If I Have a 12" pillar and I want to do three inch increments (sort of)...how in the world do I NOT get wax all over the 12 inches when I'm pouring the first layer???I'm a sloppy sloppy pourer. So I guess I'm looking for the best piece of equipment to purchase to get the first & second layer in the mold without dripping all over. Quote
blacktortoise Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Pour your layer when the wax is set up but not pulling away from the sides of the mold. That should prevent it from dripping down over the other layers. Quote
Scented Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 If you use a wick pin, pour slowly over it. If it's just a wick, pour slowly over it. If you dribble, take out a heat gun and melt it off or just slide it off with your finger if it's high enough. Quote
Laura Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 maybe try pouring straight in, then tilt the mold afterward. i can see how trying to pour into a deep mold would be dificult, lol!i agree the heat gun works wonders! Quote
Stella1952 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 We keep a small bucket of damp sand nearby to hold the mold while we pour. Sometimes, we pour onto a spoon lowered into the mold to better control where the wax goes. Having a steady hand helps! Good luck! I LOVE pouring layers, even if it does fray my last three nerves!Might wanna practice on a shorter pillar until you feel more comfortable with tilted layers. A 12 incher is a lotta candle to tackle if you don't have the technique down... Quote
Wick'n'Wax Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Soz, can't help, I gave up with that part ages ago lol. Never to do layers again If I dribbled, I used to gently slide it down once set up with a spatula, or yeah a heat gun Quote
