hi, i'm new

Hi and welcome to candletech and candlemaking.

Do you have a wick picked out to start with for each size? Sampler packs of wicks are good to start with.

I would pick a container, (any size you want), a wick that might work and go for it. There are several wick guide charts to go by. The one that I tend to use the most is www.candlescience.com

With Soy, I usually go up two sizes from what they suggest.

Have fun and good luck. This is a great board to ask questions and get answers from. Remember, there is no dumb question. Use the search feature first though. There's alot of information here.

I agree with 8 oz. The 16 oz is a waste of wax if you are just learning and testing. 4 oz is too small if you are pulling out the wicks and testing them.

8 oz is "just right" to me.
