EmpressC
Hi all you wonderfully wise CT people! I have a question. I made a body butter using olive oil. I like it but it's a bit too greasy. Someone suggested I add cornstarch to it. I'm unfamiliar with how to do this. Can I just add it by itself and mix it in? Or will it clump? Also, how much should I add?Any suggestions would be much appreciated! TIA!
SueH
I mix it into my shea butter and oils with a hand mixer.
Meridith
You'll have to play around with your amounts - if you use too much, you can feel it in your butter.
Noodle
I have never felt too much cornstarch in my butter. However, I have had the body butter just absorb too quickly on the skin when I have added to much of it.
Christine Flapp
I use tapioca powder a/k/a wheat starch because it is much finer than corn starch which tends to be heavier. I ALWAYS sift powder before adding to mixture because it alleviates clumps. Start with a very small amount otherwise there is nothing you can do if it makes the mixture grainy. CareBear
I only did it once but I mixed it with some oil till it was a smooth slurry. Then poured it into the mix carefully.
Peachdream
For my batches (250g of srefined shea & 50g FCO) I use two heaped teaspoons. Have never tried more, but less definitely wasn't enough.
