AngelaVA
The J50 is a soft wax, unlike votive/pillar waxes, which are really hard. I use a serrated knife to cut it and it cuts very easily. The wierd pattern isn't from the FO not mixing and it doesn't happen for me when I heat the jars.

AngelaVA
I think it happens when the wax doesn't cool slowly enough. I heat my jars in the oven at around 150. Then I put the jars back in the oven to cool down (oven is off now by the way). When I do this, they cool very slowly and I don't get the wierd pattern on top. But I don't care enough to do it because it takes more work.

Plus, no one really notices anyway.
