prcandles
The flame stopper is to keep the wick from burning further than you want, so I would "think" you place them down near the bottom, above the tab, and crimp them closed. I haven't seen them in person, but do they have an open end on both ends? If so, slide it down the wick above the tab, and use a pair of pliers to crimp it.HTHPat

Vicky_CO
I usually take a pair of pliers and snap that circle off. Then just put your wick in the barrel and them crimp it with pliers.

Twoscentsworth
Just a FYI those are jewelry crimps and the hole is to string wire through...it doesn't matter which way it goes and I usually snip them off also. You can buy wicks with a high top tab, would save that step for you.
